'lopers Package - Read 1st post & PM me info to participate

I appreciate the enthusiasm in getting this going, but it'll make things easier on me if all those who wish to participate fill out this short form and PM it to me.

Copy & Paste, fill out and PM me wrote:1. Forum Name:

2. Location:

3. Are you willing/able to pay for international shipping?

4. (Poll) Would you prefer we ship around the cube only (cheaper, as it could be fitted into a large envelope), or the cube plus a gift for each person?

5. Is there any forum member you would not be comfortable giving your address to? OR What forum member(s) are you comfortable giving your address to? (Leave blank if not applicable)

Depending on the results of the poll question (#4) we will stick with the cube only, which could be folded up and put into an envelope each time it is shipped to save money, or go with the original idea of shipping the cube along with a gift for the next person on the list.

-----------------------

One more thing, if someone wants to Photoshop the companion cube (probably have to do it from scratch) for printing, that'd be groovy. I doubt it'll end up being any bigger than 12x12 inches, but the larger it is the better, since it can easily be scaled down without losing quality.

I will do this myself if no one else wants to, but I don't have a lot of free time so I'm not sure when I'll be able to get to it myself.

Here is a reference for what it could look like (but bigger!):

I like the idea of turning it into a chain of gifting, to cut down on shipping costs. What if I made a Companion Cube-esque cube out of poster board or something. The cube could be placed into a standard shipping box for shipping. Inside the Companion Cube you could put your item to send to the next person on the list. Each time someone receives the Cube, they can take it out, sign it with their forum name, and then take a picture of it somewhere in their environment; It could just be on their computer desk, in their arms, outside their house, or in front of a recognizable building/feature around their hometown/region, etc. Photos could be posted on the forum, then they'd ship it to the next person in line.

This is a random idea I came up with. I totally thought of it on my own, so I don't know if an online community has done it before, or if there'll be interest in it, but it seems like it would be neat to me.

Basically, the idea would be for the first person to take a box and put something (ideally small and light) in it, with their forum name/location attached to it, then ship it to another person. That person would add something to it, along with their name/location, then ship it to the next person. So on and so forth. With the geographic diversity we have here, it could end up going all over the world. It would probably be a bonus if each item a person added somehow represented the part of the world they are from. When we've finally shipped it around to everyone who wants to participate, the last person to receive it could upload photos of all the items. And then, well, I don't know what they'd do with the items.

If a cumbersome package would result in excessive shipping charges, maybe we could just do photographs/postcards instead. This doesn't seem like it would be as cool though.

That's all I've got for now. If there's interest then I (read: we) can work out the specifics.

I think it's a neat idea, but a box full of stuff may get kinda expensive, especially paying shipping for overseas when applicable.

Sounds cool( I have the perfect gift for my box already :D ) And yeah it'd be pretty cool if we would send a 'Lopers package to the most active and known members(so that the receiver doesn't go like who the fuck is Punky for example :p )
I'd say we make a list with all the members willing to participate and that every time when a member receives a package he posts pictures or what else wants to tell, show the other members about the gift he received.
And if I understand you correctly you just want every member(that wants to) to send a package to a random member from the list(maybe we should pick numbers or something to prevent that someone gets 3 packages :p)
So if we are going to make a list, put me on already.

I would imagine anything larger than a shoebox would be pretty impractical, it's a neato idea though and I'd definitely be in.

what we would need to do is make it go through continents so like say go through everyone in Australia. And then the last person in Australia say sends it to the UK but everyone in Australia chips in like $1.00 when they send it to bring down the cost of the last person getting it. So therefore everyone in Australia is chipping in to send it overseas

Cool idea, but imagine how much it will cost sending it to the last person on the list. One item from every loper, that's one big package. But if we can find a reasonable way to do this, then count me in.

It's a good idea, but as said before, the costs could get big. You could try to do a virtual box instead. Just create a large box in hammer. Do something small in it, for example you could make the thing you would have put in the real life box, then pass the vmf to the next person. There would be no postage to pay, and at the end, just compile and you can see what everyone has put in the box.

How about the item you put in the box is for the next person in the list, that box goes to that person, they keep the gift (adding a photo of said gift with them and their username). They put an item in it for the next person on the list who does the same.

One gift at a time = low P&P.

Kind of a christmanssy feel to that suggestion, with the giving of gifts *looks at the Christmas avatar*

Would be a good alternative though.

Does anyone find irony in the fact Emazing wants us to send a package to her address and in her sig she has her address crossed out?

Just joking but still...

I know i am not the most well known of posters but i would be down for that. There are people all over the world what could probably put some cool stuff in the lil box. Now hear is a posability as well...

My brother was telling me about a bunch of kids in his neighborhood who played a game called bigger or better. Esencially you start with something small and go door to door and ask the people there if they want to trade for something bigger or better then the item you start with. The kids in his neighborhood started with a paperclip, by the time they left my brother house they traded him a spiderman airhockey table for a TV. It would be hard to do the bigger part but better would be pretty cool.

Anyway just a thought... But put me down as interested...
