Fine by me. I do wish though, that we should try to keep this as strictly "Interlopers" as we can. Like, if he's on the photo together with you, that's okay, but don't have one photo of you in front of something, and one photo of your friend in front of something else. This should apply to everyone, but feel free to discuss it if you disagree.

I believe my friend is on Interlopers :P He usually goes by the name "Nih"... Originally "NihilanthDK" or something like that.

Judging from a swift read-through P1 starts a map, saves it on a USB stick, buy an inflatable hammer (lol), takes a picture of himself with the hammer at a key location in his hometown, saves the picture on the USB pen with the map, sends the USB pen and the hammer to P2 - and then PX received the USB pen and the hammer, does what P1 did except continuing the original map rather than creating a new one, and sends the USB pen to PY. Correct? Anything else?

You're pretty much right, except for the map idea. Did we ever agree on that? I remember someone said it, but I don't think anyone clearly said they liked it. But hey, I don't remember what I ate for dinner yesterday, so don't ask me. I just don't see the point. A map could just as easily be uploaded here for everyone to edit, you don't have to send it around the world on a USB stick.

I like the map idea... But let's keep that online.

Or, of it turns out to be cheaper, we can send it through Asia first, then over to the States, then back to Europe. This we will have to figure out when it's time to really start working on the itinerary, IE sometime after I've won the inflatable hammer. Does this sound like a good idea to everyone?

I don't really care about the route... As long as my expenses stay below $50 I should be ok so whether I have to send it to Berlin or Baghdad isn't really that important :)

So now we just wait for you to win the hammer?

Sure, signing sounds like a good idea. We'd have to sign with both our forum name and real name (or just forum name) though, as most of us are only known by their forum name. Like, I'd sign "1447: John Doe" or something, so people will know that 1447 is my forum name and John Doe is my real name. See?

Jitterbug wrote:also, what happens if the hammer pops

I don't think that'll be a problem. It's not like we're going to treat it as rough as humanly possible, and if it do pop, it's just a matter of sealing the affected area with duct tape.

OVRKLL wrote:So now we just wait for you to win the hammer?

If it's okay by everyone, yes.

PS: My real name is not John Doe. Seriously.

Okay, bad news: I went to that fair yesterday, but after a thorough search, I could only conclude with that inflatable hammers weren't among this year's prizes... Just my luck, I guess.

So the question is, what do we do now? I've done some research, and it's perfectly possible to buy those hammers online, but is it really worth it? Should we try to find another funny object first? Discuss.

why do we need a funny object? stick an SD card in an envolope with a dumb birthday card and we can all sign it and mail it round for no reason. :)

You know what'd be awesome? If the post office facilitated this kind of thing. An envelope, instead of being marked with an address, could be marked with a queue/serial number, and they internally index a subscriber list and mail it there. When it reaches the end of the list, it goes back to the top. Of course they'd have to print the current destination address on it for the carriers convenience. And the recipient would put it in a new envelope and copy the number. A base 34 (not including the letters O and I) serial number could provide enough data density to even have some data redundancy/error correction/human fault tolerance.

Neat idea, but it'd never happen. No benefit to the post office/government to implement something that would cost them more money.

An inflatable hammer is DKK 30 in Denmark. That's $ ~5,5. Whats the problem? :)

Update: I found the perfect hammer I was looking for at eBay (sorry, but those two other stores you guys linked to didn't offer delivery to Norway). I click the big purple "Buy it now" button, and since I've never used eBay before, I have to agree to tons of shit, including some stuff about promising to buy the hammer. It's not a problem, right? Right? No.

Because, as it turned out, it's not a matter of paying for stuff like everywhere else, no, they use PayPal. Which I have never used before either. No problem, right? Right? No. I have to fucking confirm my credit card or some shit. :(

And, since I was blessed with good fortune by Virgin Mary when I was born, my credit card have now stopped working, and I had to order a new one. According to the lizard at the bank, I can expect my new card within a week. When I get my new card, I can confirm it with PayPal, and then I can buy the hammer, and since Norway is located an insanely long distance away from the UK, I'd say 1-2 weeks delivery time.

So, hang in there, victory is imminent...
