Web hosts and hosting?

Postby Penney on Tue Jun 08, 2010 4:44 pm

I'm trying to get myself better organized, start selling myself in my local and national/international community, make some scratch and learn a whole shitpile whilest doing so.

But I don't know what I'll be doing in the future, could be almost anything, as well I might be looking at a few different small company/business ideas with some close friends, and at least I am looking for a web host. I've been looking at InMotion Hosting, they have a choice of two centralized servers, one in LA Cali, and one in Washington D.C., and I'm happy with the speed I'm getting out of their Washington server (shat a 5mb test file to me in a .25th of a second)

A good tech friend of mine told me about DreamHost hosting, I checked up a little on them. The only thing that phased me between the two is that Dreamhost guarantee's 100% uptime where InMotion only says 99.9% uptime and doesn't guarantee any of it, though I'd imagine both are just as fluky with downtime as the other in actual fact. but they want a dollar more, but basically offer the exact thing.

I'm wondering who the lopers that are already hosting smiler sites (portfolio/blog) are putting their money on. Any suggestions and companies definitely to avoid?

I've had hosting with both InMotion and DreamHost. I had to move from IM because they said I grew too big for their shared hosting package. I was pretty happy with them up until then. The speed was always good.

I am with DH and for the most part am happy. That said, my site is a hobby and if I were serious about running a business via a website, where my income came from the quality of hosting I would look for somebody else and be prepared to pay more.

At the price IM or DH is fantastic for what you get. Check out the Dream Host Status page to see what happens and how users really think.

Hope that helps and good luck with your ideas.

if your looking for a good free web hosting I can recommend either:
http://www.weebly.com/ <easier to get things up but have less features in there page making, its also easier to include googleads and google store for you pages
or
http://www.webs.com/ <more features but not as easy as the above, and you cant change the name of your site once you have it set
-science: nothing can be destroyed only transformed into new forms.
-me: true death is a lie there is only transformation, unless sciences very core is wrong.
