Thank You Interlopers! **Edited with pics!**

While I haven't posted much in a while, I had to come in to give a huge thanks to the mods, the forum goers, the tutorial and article writers, and the few who posted in my old thread for my L4D1 map "Depleted Uranium".

Today I was awarded a $4,000 scholarship for my submission of "Depleted Uranium." While I am no where near done with the map, the LA Film School Game Production Department deemed it the best submission for my start date and awarded me with the competitive scholarship.

While I am bragging a little bit (all true villains should), I am mainly posting for two reasons:

Firstly, to give huge thanks to the community and moderators.

And secondly to let all you little 'lopers out there know that anything is possible if you map hard enough.

I learned 90% of what little I know about mapping/level design from this site and its community.

EDIT:
Normally I have others do my bidding. However, since you all demand screens I will do as you say.

What I turned in is not finished, but it's fully playable. I also included some design documents detailing story and mechanics (bridges, one-way doors, panic event, etc.) which I have not included here. I learned today that I won because the department head found the level fun to play and also because my design documents really fleshed out what I was aiming for as well as specifying what needs work.

Without further ado, feast your eyes on my $4,000 screen shots :-D

Once again I give my thanks to this website and community. I still have a lot to learn and even more work to do. However, it feels good to be recognized for the hard work I have put in and I look forward to learning how to make my maps MUCH better than they currently are.

Try not to get discouraged mapping. I know some of you out there have been working in Hammer for many years, and I'm sure some of you just opened up the SDK a week ago. No matter where your skills lay on the spectrum I insist that you keep working, stay active in great communities such as this one, and never let anyone tell you that your level/concept isn't good.

So I showed her. Gave it right to her like I owed her. That's when I turned from Shrek the Ogre into Master Yoda.

Awesome news man, congrats. Any chance you could show us some of what your submission looked like?

I don't want to be harsh but if that won you a $4k scholarship, it speaks volumes about the quality of the applicants. Especially considering you (I assume) only did the design work and none of the art (models/textures).

LA Film School Game Production Department

I doubt game art was even a consideration, good documentation and a stab at implementation I would consider more important than the ability to do high poly models for a course in game production.

Congrats on the scholarship.

How did you manage to glitch up the texture?

I mean it looks fine when the flashlight is on it, but without it it's checkerboarded!

I'm just curious as i've never seen a texture screw up like this.

Great map BTW and congrats on the scholarship!

Yes, that was the focus of the scholarship. Since I'm not going into game art or 3D backgrounds I could have handed in a fullbright orange map. They wanted to see the gameplay I'd created and how I executed it. They weren't really judging the art work contained in any of the pieces submitted.
