Today I was awarded a $4,000 scholarship for my submission of "Depleted Uranium." While I am no where near done with the map, the LA Film School Game Production Department deemed it the best submission for my start date and awarded me with the competitive scholarship.
While I am bragging a little bit (all true villains should), I am mainly posting for two reasons:
Firstly, to give huge thanks to the community and moderators.
And secondly to let all you little 'lopers out there know that anything is possible if you map hard enough.
I learned 90% of what little I know about mapping/level design from this site and its community.
EDIT:
Normally I have others do my bidding. However, since you all demand screens I will do as you say.
What I turned in is not finished, but it's fully playable. I also included some design documents detailing story and mechanics (bridges, one-way doors, panic event, etc.) which I have not included here. I learned today that I won because the department head found the level fun to play and also because my design documents really fleshed out what I was aiming for as well as specifying what needs work.
Without further ado, feast your eyes on my $4,000 screen shots

Once again I give my thanks to this website and community. I still have a lot to learn and even more work to do. However, it feels good to be recognized for the hard work I have put in and I look forward to learning how to make my maps MUCH better than they currently are.
Try not to get discouraged mapping. I know some of you out there have been working in Hammer for many years, and I'm sure some of you just opened up the SDK a week ago. No matter where your skills lay on the spectrum I insist that you keep working, stay active in great communities such as this one, and never let anyone tell you that your level/concept isn't good.
