GMOD Server Creation Issues

Postby Groxkiller585 on Sat Nov 27, 2010 2:13 pm

Hi all! I'm not sure exactly where to put this thread so I put it in GD to be safe.

Anyway i've tried to make a Dedicated Server for GMOD with some success. At least, the server appears to be up and running; even telling me the FPS and map. However I nor any of my friends can join it; attempting to use to IP for manual connection on my part gives the error:

Code: Select all
ENGINE ERROR: Couldn't Allocate any server IP port

and when others try manual connection nothing happens, so it makes me assume that it's offline, but it makes no sense, i've figured out how and forwarded the ports on my router, but it still fails.

I have tried:

1. Manually chaning the IP (I knew it would fail but i tried anyway)
2. Manually changing the port (still fails)

Could it have something to do with content? I only allowed CS:S and GMOD content on the server. (as well as HL2) does it need something more?

Here's the server's log:

Image

As you can see at the near top is says "steam is not active, running in -insecure mode"

However steam IS running. WTF?

I learned how to do this from here:

Anyone here can help me with this issue?

Are you running this from your PC? May just be that the line isn't direct or fast enough.

IDK, the server's FPS rate is pretty high, and it isn't lagging anything else so I'd assume it's fine. However I AM using a wireless router ATM so that may be the cause, but others have done it with routers with no issues. :?

Just to double check,
You made sure your friends were connecting to your public IP?
http://www.whatismyip.com/

And when they connected they made sure to specify the port?
x.y.z:27035

Do you by any chance know if you have a Dynamic IP or Static IP?

Well in the pic I realized it was dynamic, so I made it static. I'm retesting it as we speak. I wanna make sure I can connect before I retest if other can join.

Also is the -insecure problem a bug or is it something I can fix?

EDIT: Ok that didn't work. :/

Ok, so what EXACTLY needs to be done to get a server up-and-running? I mean it's on and everything but no connection; even I can't connect, so it can't be internet based...right?

Also, attempting to make my server run on any IP I add apart from my computer's IP results in the Allocate IP Port error. (kind of expected this but still...)

Say my router IP was 1.1.1.2 and my computer's IP was 2.2.2.1. How would I go about making it so that someone on the internet can connect to my router, and it forwards it to my server?

Not sure what you mean when you say you made it static.
(At least for us we have to pay for a static IP, might be different in other places/on other providers)

But if its running locally on your network you would connect using your local address.
(If this is running on another comp then you would use that computers unique address in the LAN.
Otherwise I think you would use 12.0.0.1, not sure about that though)

People connecting remotely would use your outside public address, and a port.
Assuming you correctly forwarded the port number they would use (with your example) 1.1.1.2:27035
Make sure (using that site I provided or your Router) that they enter your public address and use the port you forwarded.

Not sure about the -insecure, might need to go look at the srcds docs for what that means.

I made my computer's dynamic IP static with this handy program:

http://www.pcwintech.com/simple-static-ip

Working on disabling HLTV (I dought GMOD uses it anyway...)

Thats still local but helps I suppose, your Public IP could still be Dynamic.

All I can say really without being there is,
If you did everything just right, then your friends should be able to connect using your Public IP with the Port you forwarded.
That Port should be forwarded to your computers address on your local network.
You should also be able to connect locally I imagine using 127.0.0.1(localhost)

So long as the server is running correctly you should not have any problems.

Your friends should be entering something like xx.x.x.xx:yyyyy (x = public IP, y = Forwarded Port)
You would be entering 127.0.0.1

Hope I could help, best luck to you.

Well I managed to narrow down the problem: it is NOT internet connection.

When I configured the server for TF2, my friends could join. However I still cannot, using my computer's IP, the router's IP, nothing. Adding the port did not help.

In GMOD it is a complete bust; it won't let my friends join and I can't join.

All thoughout I keep getting the "couldn't allocate IP port" even when I DID specify the port.

Still need help, please...
