Meaningful Quotation via TP

Postby pk_hunter on Wed Mar 30, 2011 5:03 pm

What-ho, fellow 'lopers.
In this thread, post a quote which means a lot to you, and if you want - explain why you find it meaningful.

Sounds boring, doesn't it?
I agree, which is why you must also run the quote through Translation Party - a site which runs a phrase through a Japanese translator, then back to English, then back to Japanese ad infinitum until equilibrium is reached.

I'll begin.

"Too many people want to pull those who stand out back to the mediocre middle because those who shine make them look dull by comparison." - Akala, British genius, underground rapper and philosopher.

"I have all the back end, I am the most famous person you can think you are blind comparison. I'm bored," he said. Marginal - Akara, a British philosopher genius wrapper tube.

Genius wrapper tube indeed.

I tried a John Henry Eden quote, stolen from John Adams:

"Old minds are like old horses, you must exercise them if you wish to keep them in working order." - John Henry Eden, President of Your Hearts

Turns into

"You, if you're working for an old horse, we can order it for the order, you need to know in order to maintain order for the old order." - President Jonhenrieden mind

It seems that John Henry Eden sought to control our minds and above all else, wanted total order... from a horse. Maybe like how Emperor Caligula made his horse a senator...

I guess the Enclave was trying to install a horse-led dictatorship into post-apocalyptic America.

Original: "The PS3 is a total disaster on so many levels, I think It's really clear that Sony lost track of what customers and what developers wanted."

Favorite: "PS3 is the sum of various levels of disaster, like Sony, I lose you, but apparently did not, they can track you that you are not but I believe the developer."

Last (unfinished): "Because it is not, I'm all in various levels, particularly Sony's PS3, the accident or trust, has developed a nickel will lose, you are looking for."

Not an inspirational quote, but I still think it's funny.

Original: "When everything is coming your way, you're in the wrong lane." - Steven Wright

Translated: "In coming your way, you can use all the wrong lane." - Stephen Wright

Not as funny as I thought it'd turn out, but it seems they changed Steven to Stephen.

I'll try a different one.

Original: "I went to the hardware store and bought some used paint. It was in the shape
of a house. I also bought some batteries, but they weren't included." - Steven Wright

Translated: Steven Wright - "I Hadoueasutoa Kimashi, you have rendered me, she is to buy some things used to purchase some of the cells are at home ...."

you seem to have somewhat skipped step 2 there, Armageddon. :3

"Face two small mirrors towards each other to create an infinite corridor, stick them together and carry them in your pocket. If you feel belittled and small, you can escape into the corridor. If you can't fit, then you're a bigger person than you thought you were."

"Put us in your pocket, you can put a small mirror to create a transportation corridor to the other two infinity. You can get away with such rude, you may feel a bit down the hall. If you can not get along with people is greater than you might think."

I do often feel a bit down the hall!

“Between the two of us…you know he’s just going to kill you when he’s done with you, right? After all, he’s done with me, and he’s sent you to kill me. Geez, that’s almost an insult in itself. He sent YOU to kill me. Pathetic. You’re pathetic.” - Ava Winona, addressing the player in "99 Bolts"

"We are right…you and I shall destroy the next two, I shall send him? Him, if I do things I have said or offensive itself, it is wrong with you that he was angry and said bit end is to please you must know very unfortunate to kill." - Ava Winona, addressing the player in "99 Bolts: Japanese Disaster" Expansion Pack

I think I will release an alternate version of my mod with all dialogue translated with TP. This is some epic win right here.

Yea, and the HP Lovecraft translation is actually kind of haunting, considering Cthulu and all......

Here's another one of mine:

“America might be plowed under by the alien war machine but her ideals can live on…right here in this bunker…sitting on the edge of madness. 'When injustice becomes law, rebellion becomes duty.'…That was Thomas Jefferson, son, and don’t you ever forget it.” - The survivalist in "99 Bolts"

"Under the U.S. war machine abroad, she is a traitor ... I said, 'bad law, in an ideal world, he is my son…Thomas Jefferson can not remember it. It rests at the end of my life," he said. He said it had seen sitting on the edge of his madness perhaps." - The survivalist in "99 Bolts: Tears of Fukushima" Add-On (thanks ED!!)

Hah, that's great, sorry I didn't see the TP thing.

Also the H.P. Lovecraft quote really inspired my idea for a horror mod that I hope to make someday, I think his 'mythos-cthulhu' type horror isn't used a lot, it's just lurking there, you never know what is going to happen or what you will find, it's like another level of physiological horror.

The second quote was from this guy I know, he told me that a long time ago, and it really helped me start my mod, I was just having so many HUGE ideas that would never be possible in Source, I always go back to that every now and then.
