Help Portal 2 RELEASE EARLY!

Postby MrTwoVideoCards on Fri Apr 15, 2011 4:14 pm

Play the 13 Indie games in The Potato Sack to help Portal 2 release early! See this page for more info:

http://www.aperturescience.com/glados@home/

In case anyone doesn't currently understand the system: CPU's are indications of how many people are currently playing the potato pack games, per game. Whereas the number of potatoes acts as a multiplier for that cpu count.

So even if you do not own all the games, be sure to get as many potatoes as you can!

UPDATE UPDATE:
Apparently GlaDOS is drawing power from computers that are playing the games featured in the Potato Sack pack, and for every 48 hours played in each game the individual title's power bar goes up by 1%. Idling does not help, GlaDOS wants actual gameplay only.

The very same potatoes that I was collecting last night supposedly act as a multiplier to everyone's efforts. For example, six potatoes in Defense Grid would multiply all efforts by others in Defense Grid by 6x. Once the progress bar for all games is maxed Portal 2 will release, unless the retail release date comes first.

Here is a list of the required actions needed to obtain the potatoes in each game: https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id ... KUfE&pli=1

Lastly joining this group will automatically grants you a FREE potato. It seems odd I know, but apparently it has some meaning with the ARG. UPDATE: The user who created this group has some portal 2 images on his profile, from his current play-through, however they are masked with Portal 1 thumbnails. This now more or less explains it's involvement with the ARG.

Can i only leave 1 of the games running? or do i need to run all of them at once?? my computer is going to melt. :(

I only have 2 potatoes by the way, is that good or bad???

Also, here's the link to the new Glados @ Home countdown and CPU usage monitor. http://www.aperturescience.com/glados@home/

Valve is giving us a chance to launch Portal 2 early!
http://www.aperturescience.com/glados@home/

Remember the Potato Sack? GlaDOS is apparently drawing "power" from computers playing games in the potato sack. For every collective 48 hours for one particular game, that game's "power bar" goes up by 1%. And Steam needs to record you actually playing the game - just leaving something idling in the background does not contribute.

The potatoes we all frantically collected can still be collected - in fact, you are a major contributor if you even collect one potato in one game. Potatoes multiply that game's particular power, so if, say, you gathered 5 potatoes in Audiosurf and one in Bit.TRIP BEAT, you'd be multiplying EVERYONE's efforts in Audiosurf by 6x and BIT.TRIP BEAT by 2x.

Some people seem to think that launching multiple games is a good idea. This is in fact, not helping at all, because Steam only records keyboard activity in games launched through Steam, not through external launching.

So running multiple games at once doesn't help, you can't idle in the game, and GET THOSE POTATOES.
Here's a potato guide. https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id ... KUfE&pli=1

This depends on the number of potato pack games people actually have. Idling helps, but getting potatoes should still be a goal for the games you have not acquired them for.

What's the source for the 'more potatoes means more power' theory? Everyone's pasting that around but I haven't seen where it came from.

Things are moving way to fast to kind of keep up now. Mostly a lot of the overall plot is unfolding across multiple sites. But the page is clearly laid out to show cpu's x potatoes.

Moreover I don't think we've collected these potatoes for nothing. The reason this is also the case is so that people wouldn't be conned essentially into buying the indie games just for the cause, or at least those who currently do not own all of the games/not have a way to currently purchase them.

Plenty of games have more than 1 potato to obtain, s it would be ideal to allow people to help out from that standpoint.
