They are still going to call it Half-Life 2: Episode 3. I don't expect many new features to the engine, I expect it to be more model based(like Portal2), Portal-2 level shadow mapping and that's it.

Hopefully they'll use a lot of the stuff they learnt from L4D(2) like the AI, AI director, efficient skins/body groups within the same model. It gets a little tiring seeing the same combine, citizen and weapon models from 2004.

also, no more episodic content could mean that they wont follow that standard with any new title.. but they could still finish EP3... tho personally I do believe it's going to be Hl3 too

I imagine a new game everything (barring the engine) would have to be from scratch, like the difference between HL1 and HL2.

That's the trick with episodes, they can release them quicker as they are still HL2 ep# and can pull off HL2 assets, if they went on the same path they did for ep1 and ep2 for ep3, but called it HL3 I think it would piss people off.
