I think that is a terrible generalization of the UK. I believe the word you are looking for is 'Secular'. As in, we will never mix religion and government/education. Although yes, the majority of young english citizens tend not to be religious, the UK is now such a broad mix of cultures and diversity that there are dozens of belief systems thriving here.

Yes it's a generalisation but an accurate one.

The majority of my generation or younger would consider themselves agnostic at least and certainly do not practice a religion regularly. At a push most people may say Church Of England but that's just to avoid social embarrassment.

There are of course minorities in the UK who do practice a wide variety of Religions and that's what makes the UK such a wonderful melting pot of rich cultures...
