London ransacked by looters...

On the plus side I'm getting great reference shots for my Left 4 Dead map!

I really hate how some people feel the need to destroy the city wen something happens they don't like. I was talking to a black friend of mine who teaches diversity education at the high school I used to work at. He tried to tell me that people sometimes feel they have no other option but to have a violent uproar. I argued the very idea of that is counter productive. If you want respect, you can not act like a child throwing a tantrum. In short, that's what these people did.

All that aside, I hope everyone who lives in London is okay and things calm down soon. No good can come of violent behavior like that.

I'm in Ealing, which unbelievably was hit quite hard by the looters.

It literally moved all the way down the broadway (which is just full of shops) and I think it sealed the deal when I saw kids running past with TVs.

There's no justification for rioting and looting like that. Destroying your own neighborhoods is just retarded.

I do wonder what they are thinking. You can't just put it off to general crime, and simply throwing lots of police at them won't solve anything in the long run.

I'm really surprised in London... I didn't know that many scum bags lived there.... Police need to break out the rubber bullets and just start shooting them. This isn't going to resolve itself buy just pushing them down the street to loot something else... The thing that really pisses me off is OK, loot you idiots but don't fucking set buildings on fire. These are peoples homes and business's! These people need to be deported from the country such mindless acts and for what? Some dumb ass drug dealer that probably had it coming... :smt039 If this is the future of the world and that riots can spark like this so easily time to break out the AK47's and clean up the problem taking OUT the problem... :jingle:

My flat was actually robbed last night, but Its probably not directly related to the riots, except someone took advantage of the situation and took off with a few valuables from my place :/

I too live in the UK and its a terrible situation at the moment.
IMO this has been on the cards for a few years now, and whilst i don't agree with the looting and vandalism there is underlying issues which have been ignored by the new government as well as the previous.

I was in a 50k job two years ago, was then made unemployed due to the " global economy " and was on the doll for 7 months, the only work i could find was forklift truck agency work paying the minimum wage, it was the only work available.

I then got a full time job in a High School working in the I.T dept paying just 16k a year. YES 16k a year.
I am lucky enough to be able to pay my rent and just support myself on these wages, but employees tell me they have had no pay increase for 3 years.

Working in a School environment has opened my eyes to the youth of today and what little prospects they have when they leave school regardless of qualifications. I for one wouldn't want to be 18 today that's for sure.
Getting full time work is a total joke, getting on the property ladder is an absolute Joke,
groceries , utility, council tax and other common bills have skyrocketed and lets not start on fuel costs.

On a final note it was nice of David Cameron and Boris Johnson to come back off their holidays so quick, its just a shame that most people in the UK cant afford a tent let alone a holiday, and we still have one of the highest child poverty levels in Europe. :smt018

we may all moan about these "Hoodies" we see on the news but they are nothing more than a product of our society that we have created. :smt018

but wood, can't you agree that the people causing the riots.. are allot of people who are just scum and only hurt the innocent people.. and that probably most of them are just in it for the sake of the riot
purely speculation ofcourse, based on what I've seen in the footage...

would be better if they start going for the government buildings instead of the civilians

Let's be clear.. the problems in Tottenham (north London) on Saturday were a riot.
Everything else was just looting.. plain shameless looting.

The little shits who make up the teenage gang culture in London (a problem that's been getting steadily worse over the past 8 years) discovered that if there were enough of them and they moved quickly enough they could loot like crazy.

The cops were totally caught unprepared.

Woods right though. This has been brewing for years. The gangs have been living a completely different existence to the rest of the city and have grown to respect nothing. The cops have tried to deal with it but failed.

It's going to take a complete change of how we deal with parents who don't take responsibility for their kids. It's going to be tough.

Things have pretty much calmed down now with no reported problems tonight... but this could all start again in future and there's very little people could do about it.
