What projects do you guys work on?

Postby Jangalomph on Sun May 20, 2012 4:04 am

I honestly don't remember if I dreamt this or not.. So sorry if this is a question being re-asked.. I searched forums for a thread similar, and couldn't find it.

I'm curious as to what projects every one here works on?

I'm a VFX/Particle artist for:

Mist of stagnation - http://www.moddb.com/games/mist-of-stagnation
http://osiris-studios.com/

No More Room in Hell - http://www.nomoreroominhell.com
http://www.moddb.com/mods/no-more-room-in-hell

and.. then I made the Base mod for modders.

Making Disneyland in L4D2, yeah really. Not the whole park, just several of the lands. The players fight from the entrance gates to Splash Mountain. There is a finale in Critter Country as they wait for the Mark Twain River Boat to rescue them. Been working on this for ages, but I'm pretty please with how things are turning out.

Main Street is a nightmare to make.

´ve been working on my Southernmost Combine mod for ages too (four years already?). Most of what I did is undocumented yet, as I prefer to cause a good impresion at the time of playing and not doing hype for years just to later dissapoint. Still the quality the project is reaching is below what I expected/dreamed it to be.

I´m alone doing maps, models, textures, sounds (i´m having some help here) and even some coding. In the meantime I also split my time with real life, I have built an actual house for my family and worked 11 hours per day each day at my truck postman job.

These are a few random shots of my mod. Mostly showing the most recent level I´ve been working on. It is almost done and so far was made a lot faster than the other two levels -which I still have to finish-. This is mostly justified by the fact that this one is more stadanrd hl2 style.

I spend a large amount of time working on For Hire. Occasionally I dabble in other projects - most recently I contributed a fair bit of weapon sounds to Casus Belli, I have done other things elsewhere but I can't remember off the top of my head :P

Been working on my own little project(HL2:EP2 Mod) for a good few months now.

The essentials are:

Big map with very little loading/instances.(Think S.T.A.L.K.E.R.)
Organic and lifelike terrain with as few 'invisible bounderies' as possible. Going for as much immersion as possible.

Which is what is taking most of my time.
Finding a viable way to generate terrain without making it all myself. Because, that'd take too long and not something I want to do. This is much more interesting.

I've tried using Terragen with some success, but the software is not very intuitive to use when you want specifics and you also need to use one(or two?) conversion tools that also alter the original result from terragen. It's frustrating to work with.

Especially when it doesn't work when you try to compile in hammer even though it looks perfectly fine.

I can certainly tell that Hammer(Or Source?) wasn't made for big maps or vast foresty terrain.
Either that or I'm doing something wrong.

@ gambini, you oughta add more layers of tree cards behind the current ones to add more depth!

Thanks for the tip. I will indeed do that with a 3d skybox, also all those trees (models) are going to the trashcan in a couple of weeks, when i finally get my own trees done. :)

Me and two other fellows here are working on a Ravenholm sub-multipath mod. First actual mod, but the programming and mapping seem to have a fresh enough edge to keep things interesting I think.

I map and make models. I currently am trying to get my modeling skills to par for mods. For now though I just swim around in Hammer for days on end.
