Retailers come up with those lists all the time, and they are guesses at best. I work at BestBuy, and they had diablo 3's release date off by almost 8 months. That sheet also has Prey 2's release date on it for last year.

Unfortunately it's just company planning, trends, and budgeting that creates those lists, not a lot of fact in them.
