Operation: Payback, First Hand

Postby FMPONE on Sat Sep 28, 2013 8:14 pm

Hey guys!! SO I wrote an article about my experience with the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive mapping promotion, called Operation: Payback. You can check it out here: http://www.mapcore.org/page/features/_/ ... t-hand-r27

Happy to answer any additional questions you guys have :)

Great read FMPONE. I'm glad you took the time to write this, it's nice to get a closer look at the effects of Payback on the mappers. Valve is definitely on the right track with supporting mappers, it's just impressive to see how well it actually works. It's inspirational to say the least, I've always wanted to make a CS:GO map but could never get around to finishing one. Maybe it's time to bring back up some of my old ideas.

$18,000, shiet. It would be absolutely amazing if I could get into one of these 'Operation' packs. :smt041

Yeah $18,000 in my pocket couldn't hurt. I'm happy for all those mappers. It's good to see Valve supporting the creative communities based around their games.

I wonder if Valve has any intention to expand this to other games/future games/communities. Could spark some interest in some of their moribund games.

I guess i should finish my map then!
I doubt we would see anything like this added to any old valve games, however id assume most of their future titles would have similar business models that incorporate community content.

I foresee all future Valve titles going in this kind of direction -- why not? It's working :)
