We're going to see how to reset the displacement to its inital state, without having to destroy and recreate.
Step 1
When you have a displacemet like the one in the image below:
If you want the displacement "new" again you just have to do one thing.
Go to Displacement > Paint Geometry
Then select Raise To
Now you're ready to start working. Just click on the "displac vertex" you will note that the vertex will go down. (just like a common brush).
Now look how the brush after the work.
You can use this technique to separate the displacement vertex that was attached to the other (when you use the smooth tool, on Paint Geometry)
