Major Banter, how do you subdivide into quads? I have been trying to do it, but I always mess up a few, and it freaks out when I subdivide.

Quads aren't really necessary but are most recommended triangles can be used in some places when needed. But it is always better to have quads.

Create a rectangle 128 high and wide, and 256 long. Use the clip tool to split it into two 128x128x128 blocks. Hit subdivide. Congratulations, you just subdivided two quads.

Assuming that the edges meet, you could use the vertex tool to pull the furthest edge of one of the quads, creating a shape like this:

Without the gap of course.

As long as the middle two vertexes meet one another perfectly, when you subdivide you'll get an interesting natural variation. This is still a quad.

Never knew the engine could do this. Requires some forethought to get the shapes you want though.

Solved: Dam... This is embarrasing... I forget when I made the cube clip, and then make the displacement ALL the face creates a displacement, I make the displacement before clip and problem solved... >.<" (But I still need to erase the cube inside the outsides faces!)

Hi!. Im sorry about the nigromancy but... I want to learn how to do this and I have a problem.

Actually If I follow the guide instructions (I think im following them right XD) when I click in subdivide hammer freezes for 4 or 5 minutes, and then "spit" a ugly weird annoying displacement... Maybe i'm doing something wrong. Some pics:

I did the next, step by step.

1) Create a cube
2) Make displacement
3) subdivide
4) Delete the cube and subdivision
5) Create a cube
6) clip edges (all edges and always having the cube enterily selected)
7) make the displacement
8) subdivide
9) undo the weird subdivision (after 5 minutes...)
10) Delete the cube inside all curved edges (picture 3)
11) Subdivide (after 5 minutes...)
12) Annoying displacement
13) Rage
14) Post

Thk for your answers.

Make sure you only have the outside faces selected when creating the displacements, and keeping a consistent measurement of each side is very important, though it looks like you took care of the second part.
