I'll try it and let you know. One more question: for the material do I put it in props_interiors/SodaMachine01a/SodaMachine01a.vmt and .vtf or is there no 'SodaMachine01a' folder?
thanks for the fast replies and all the help :)

well its for a model because its for the vending machine. I specifically used GCFscape to extract the .vtf texture and I turned it into a .tga, edited it, turned it back into a .vtf and went from there.

More problems. I'm trying to use connonfodders .mdl decompiler (assuming this is the prog I use for extracting the model?) and I get an error when I try to browse for the model saying: extra app ID set to 211, but no steam ID. help?

No, it's just materials/models/props_interiors/.

You don't need to decompile the model, just use GCFscape for that to. Open source models.gcf and go to models/props_interiors/vendingmachinesoda01a.mdl (grab everything called vendingmachinesoda01a), now extract it to the same folder it was in but under your mod folder.

Sweet tut! Very nice, only I have problem. I have the vtf, and the vmfs all in thier respective places, as well as the correct referencing in the vmf files...but I still cannot even detect them from within hammer.

(Dang! I hate being a noob...sorry...hopefully that will not last very long.)

Yeah same problem here ...
Saved the texture to VTF (With tut's settings), made the WMT (Copy from tut) an pu it in my /hl2dm/materials/FOLDER/ ... They dont show up. Filenames are the same, the directory is the same ...

HELP! :(

Im having problems

Postby DC|Zzzyax on Wed May 16, 2007 8:58 pm

It ends up as the wierd pinky/black texture you get when there is something wrong yet i did everything you said...

my VMF says this which im sure is right, if not correct me (because it imports into hammer okay there is just some sort of texture error)

Code: Select all
"LightmappedGeneric"
{
    "$basetexture" "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\mysteamusernameisirrelivant\half-life 2 deathmatch\hl2mp\materials\Zyaxtextures/DeathWillKill"
    "$surfaceprop" "metal"
}

(i changed the steam acc name on the code box for security reasons :P)

EDIT: hmm, it might be the slash directions... ill change them and see if that was it

EDIT: Fixed it changed "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\mysteamusernameisirrelivant\half-life 2 deathmatch\hl2mp\materials\Zyaxtextures/DeathWillKill" to just "Zyaxtextures/DeathWillKill" now it works, great TUT btw and Kudos to Nem for the exporter! :D

Here's a nice pic of the sign i made :P (3d textured view in hammer)
