I really like the look, kinda like a Spanish or French town. Good work Meshed.

Pfoot's Combine... gate? (especially the lighting) looks good as well, but there seems to be an arch missing :p

I can safely say that mine's rushed and was an attempt to make an entry in 1 evening. The tendency in the battle thread was leaning towards having only a few contestants, so I attempted to throw something together. I guess I shouldn't have, since you guys all came along and submitted plenty of screenshots .
Which makes me feel good, because the first template battle in a long time was received well, plus the template itself yielded very interesting entries. Good going Interlopers!

So some comments on the entries:
.:20fluids:. ' - I like it, different approach, not what I had in mind while making the template, good one on that.
904 - cheesy color-correction. I can't believe that the one who made the template comes up with this crap.
BubbleQ - interesting, not sure what you want to convey though. a bit dark too
dr_doak - I sense that the gate is a gate between two different worlds, too bad it lacks detail / finishing
JakeB - I think it's a good start, too bad it's not finished.
jangalompf - Nice one, seems to have gotten a lot better since the first screenshots.
meshed - I like the style and setting, not sure about the citadel though.
noodles - the modern bridge looks nice, what's that thing under the gate?
Notary - cool stuff, great use of the template, nicely executed. I like the middle screenshot the most.
pfoot - I'm not interested in your ping when you take screenshots, and I think you modified the template too much, it looks good though.
ThePain - nice one, I'm sure what to say about it, I like it.

, I just doodled around with it a bit, I wouldn't know the settings anymore, 2x HSV Select, one for more contrast in the shadows (making it a bit grainy) and a second one to desaturate and shift the hue to yellowish. I think the raw file would be pretty useless, since it's sort of tailored to the color palette that's already in the map..

Graffiti, it's an arrow. Didn't come out too well. I also added an "Abandon All Hope" graffiti under the drain. It's just to go with the skatepark element in it. Modern, neat and tidy meets skaters kind of thing I suppose.

Just like others have called me jangalo-morph in the past.. oh well!
Jest how could you! Just kidding dude.. its alright, except every one else said jangalompf for my name in the posts about my map. but its cool. And thank you to who ever voted for me.. But this is as updated as this map will ever get! my computer got fried yesterday.. Something got caught in power supply fan and fried my graphics card, and.. every thing else with it. Any who.. im on the lap top.

Now words of wisdom. Alot of you guys had some good maps, not as good as i expected in competition. Alot of maps looked very, very uncompleted. Disappointed a bit.. but, Atleast you guys are putting up a fight. If it comes out to 3rd place for me.. thats fine with me. Any who again, its alright jest! And once again, good luck to all, to me for voting my self.. and others who voted for me!

I see a lot of maps but half of their screenshots are focused on other parts of the map or the arch is just a side piece when it should be the focus. It was hard to vote...

I fully agree with this, nobody actually tried to do something nice with the gate, most just slapped a texture on it and moved on to the environment which i think is a pity.

I'd have enjoyed seeing variations on the gate itself instead of the environment.

And 904, i think you overestimated the competition, not used to seeing that kind of quality from you
