uhm arent shaders part of the gfx-card drivers? :?
and if u mean vmt's wich i think u do, then those are piss easy to make...

on-topic:
I duno how many people are still mapping for hl1, but i wouldnt mind such a section..

Shaders are what tells a material how light should react with it. For instance those crazy combine glass things have a shader telling light it from pass through it but should refract.

You don't have to write them for every material as there is a stock set of them which are applied to materials.

Materials tell the engine how a texture should behave ingame "is it wood?, should it float? What sort of gibs should it leave? What shader is it using?"

Well, I personally think an HL1 section would be great. Back whe nI mapped only for 1.6, not being able to map for source was the only thing that made me stay at cs-maps.org and not sign up here.

if you dont want to give a bigger focus on hl1 in the forum sections, how about some contests?

Because we are really a source editing site. Both the mod forms and the mapping/help forums state they are for Source and HL1 stuff.

As for contests. Maybe we might have the odd HL1 conest here and there in the future but i doubt we will run a regular thing of it. We have enough trouble with the source contests.
