Interlopers dictionary

I dont know where ive seen it, and at first sight it may look like a lot of work, but i think it can be really usefull for our visitors

the idea is to use the forum php to parse messages to be posted and replace words (the entries in our dictionary) into clickable links with an explanation etc.

For instance, whenever someone writes "env_cubemap" in his post, this word is replaced by a shortcut to a resource that explains the word (eg. the hl2 wiki, or a tutorial on this site), and also a title that explains in short what this message means. Since html is disabled i cant show you what i mean here, but i can make an example page:

as you may see i went a bit overboard because of my misplaced humour, but i guess you all get the basic idea

its not very hard to actually implement in the forum code(just a search and replace) but making the database itself is quite intensive (lots of words can be used here)

anyway, just an idea, dunno if anyone else likes it like i do?

Hmm it's a good idea if you do it carefully, but I HATE reading articles/forums where they have that and it has some irritating offtopic link over every single bloody word, it just becomes pointless. But if you do it right (which i trust ya to ) it'd be a very, very useful addition to the help forum.

Well just the basics would do, like when I first joined cs-maps, when people said "brush" I had no idea what the hell they were talking about, so words like that would help out a lot IMO.

It's a great idea, but you should get rid of the underlining and change the colour or something in the forum style; it makes sentences less readable when a bunch of random words are underlined. It's the SAME kind OF effect as if CAPITAL letters are randomly ON.

definitely. I found a horrible site the other day with a dictionary feature, pretty much every third word was flagged up, but worse than that, they were bright green on a white bacground among medium-grey text, and they were double-underlined. Horrible. so hard to read.

I think making them a slightly lighter shade , like this, maybe with a dashed underline, might look ok.

I'd helkp out on the Modelling one, but we need more modelling resources in the tutorials to make it good...working on that one (slowly)
