Multiple choice dialogue setup

Postby v0rt3x on Tue Apr 10, 2012 3:17 pm

Hi - does anyone have previous experience with a multiple choice dialogue setup for RPG source-based mods?

I assume - with a little effort - this can also be done without any coding.

Ultimately - down the road - I'd be looking for someone to help me with this - but this isn't the right section of the board for that.

For now I just want to know how complex it is and if anyone has any thoughts on this.

Coding will be required to have an interactive dialogue. But it could be setup like the user mouse clicks over the UI (just like ME3, Dragon Age, Skyrim ect) which sends an inputs to a custom entity. Somthing like logic_decision. Then in the parameter box on the entity your able to link multiple choreograph scenes. Upon each one ending it could then fire another logic_decision which can output to the UI with a new set of responses.
However thinking it this way the entdata will get full very quickly. Hence why some of valves maps are so small in design. Some of the maps have 120% entdata full. Which i think is fine for SP but tends to crash MP clients.

Ah thanks Gary - I actually did a search through the forum before I posted, but missed that one.

Cheerio! :smt023

...now if I can just find someone to implement this for me :[]:

Related, but have your ever played that E.Y.E Divine Cybermancy game? It wasn't amazing, but it wasn't certainly fascinating in the way they used the Source engine to make a Deus Ex-esque RPG. If you're making such an RPG game it'd be worth buying and playing, so you can see why it's good and why it's not so good, and you can avoid the pitfalls.

Never played it - but yes - I'm planning on something along those lines
