Half-Life 2 invisible water. Please help!

Postby tacoo on Fri Aug 22, 2014 5:59 pm

I made a simple map, but can't get the water to work. I've done a few maps before without any problems and can't figure it out. If anyone would feel inclined to take a look at it for a few minutes, I'd greatly appreciate it! :)

Here is a download link (it's very small!)

I don't have access to hammer right now but have you gone over the documentation for water? Check this list:

https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Adding_Water#Construction

Make sure you're building with visibility, otherwise the water will never show up.

I did it by the book as far as I can tell.

Is the water made properly? With a nodraw block and only one face set as water.

Does the map compile without leaks? Leaks will cause water to not show up properly.

Try with a different texture?

I have downloaded and compiled it on normal and the water appears as it should. There were no leaks during compilation.

If the water still is invisible to you then try adding "env_cubemap" entities to the water brushes in Hammer and using the "buildcubemaps" command in-game.

you have to enclose the brush that will be your water entirely

this won't do

you have your water-textured brush just sitting on top of another brush

so you have to make a "vessel" on all sides except the top or the water "leaks" in a sense.

I'm like, 99% sure that's wrong. You can have water free-floating anywhere. It doesn't need to be "contained" by anything.
