areaportals acting wierd

Postby raffle on Tue Oct 21, 2014 3:45 am

Hello everyone

I am working in a map that has an exterior, and one of the buildings has multiple rooms.
I am using areaportals in all doors to improve performance, but sometimes i am rendering things i shouldn't be rendering:

Standing here makes me render a room that should not be rendering
Standing here makes me render the exterior and the same room
Standing here makes me render the exterior only
I have other rooms besides these that are not rendered at all unless i open the door

I am conflicted as to why this is happening, could anyone with experience working with areaportals help me?
Thank you for reading.

I'm not sure what you mean by skylights? But i have a light_environment in the exterior and 3d skybox, the 2 rooms are closed off and have no contact with the exterior.

here it is, i hope you can understand it.

I dont understand much because of small picture and mess on it, here are "instructions" on how to make a proper screenshot

hide grid, then maximize viewport and hide clutter like props and maybe even func_detail

anyway, when I was talking about skylight, I meant these rectangles on ceiling on first three screenshots, I am guessing thats what they are

Sorry, here you go

Those rectangles on the ceiling are just func_details with black and white textures to make it seem like the lights in the room are turned off\on

Is the compile log/console spitting out any errors about it?
Also, maybe highlight/write on the overview, can't really tell what's what.

I just solved it, i embarrassingly overlooked the simple fact that one of the walls containing the room was not a brush but a func_detail, must have created it by accident. Thank you for all the replies and sorry for wasting your time. I am a klutz.

No worries, things like this tend to happen. Glad you figured it out :smt023
