Maybe there should be a compition where people have to make the best version of one of these pics as they can, then show screen shots along with the original picture.

I find the best reference photos come from google searches for "urban exploration". Of course there are countless websites on the topic, and most of the best ones are from eastern europe. Russia and its satellite states are great for urban decay.

Here's a good example with lots of shots from mines, quarries, underground tunnels, etc:

I've got a question for the admin:

Can you take out most of the posts that are just comments and make this a "Reference Pictures" topic? That way, people can submit their own reference pictures.

This shows how fantasticly easy some reality shots can be implemanted into HL2 maps.
