New Rig Feedback.

Since having several threads on the same topic seems to be a recurring thing in this forum I figured it might be an idea to just sticky a thread in which you people can post your hypothetical new rigs and get feedback and advice on them.

Great idea! I'll post the new build I'm doing soon so you guys can tell me what you think. I'm trying to wait for the 790i's to come out and the 9 Series. Plus maybe the 45nm's.

I have already ordered a couple of 8800GT's but haven't paid, as I'm still doubting to go 3870 crossfire. Both have their pro's and con's so it's more a matter of prioritising, where I'm not that good at.

It does sound like a good idea except that it'll be tons of people talking about different rigs and it'll all mix up. Hopefully it's organized though.

Great idea, I was literally just thinking about this. :D

So here's my hypothetical rig, if I can convince my dad. I've been waiting for awhile and I'm finally going to get one since my school's big LAN is coming up, all I have is a laptop, and it cant play any games past HL2 and CS:S. (he should be in a good enough mood- it is thanksgiving....)

MOBO: (open box so its cheaper and appeals to dad (or is that unsafe to do?)) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131013R

GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150232

HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148261

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182069

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103773

kind of out of order, bet there it is. Total with rebates and shipping is $1047.55 USD

and a noobish question: in the future, can I SLI an 8800 with a 9 series nvidia card?

No, you cant.

Are you sure you don't wanna go to Intel platform? Current Intel offerings are faster for the same price, and overclock better.

Quick question, I'm looking into getting a notebook (no, i'm serious this time! I have money! :D)

How is the 256mb NVidia GeForce 8600M GT? What will it run? DX10?

Okay so I'm gonna get a Dell because the only major thing that ever stopped me from getting one before is because they aren't entirely upgradeable, but its a notebook so thats a given.

There is this or this. of course I would go ahead and upgrade RAM, CPU and (maybe) the HDD but those look pretty nice to me. I've never had my own computer before. Which would you guys go for (neither? :O)

I am planning on building a computer in the near future.
Any ideas where I can find reading material that will teach me all this stuff without making my brain asplode? Or a book, if it isn't too expensive.

Having someone tell me what parts is nice, but understanding how to select them is my goal.

How much do you all think the Geforce 8800's will drop in price after the 9000 series comes out?
