Well I know there are risk with over clocking but im just talking about maybe a few .1 GHZ here or there nothing to out of hand. Anyway in all reality its not that hard to build a pc by yourself just watch some youtube videos and youll be fine.

I'm not a fan of overclocking. A professor of mine lectured in class on the topic once. (Don't ask me the detail, it was 3 years or so ago and I'll be damned if I go looking for those notes...again.)
In general, its just not safe as there a plenty of things you risk happening to your processor etc

I'd love to build one myself, but I really don't trust myself to do it correctly without some type of training or something.
Besides, isn't that what people in China are f... wait no. No nevermind.

Likely final:

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4GHz with 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache[$130- 5stars with 1,756votes] No one said anything against this one, it does seem like quite a good processor.

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB(2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)[$55- 5stars with 577votes] - Might as well, the other one was below the standard(1333).

MoBo: ASRock M3A770DE 770 ATX AMD Motherboard[$60- 4stars with 341votes ] Though it does seem cheap, reviews say it's great for the price. I see nothing wrong with it, it includes a plenty of port types and such.

Total: ~$245

Trouble finding a PSU... any suggestions would be great. But I'm still looking.

I would get that one. It has a good amount of amps on the 12v rail and its 80 plus. Modular is nice to have since it gives you better airflow in the case. Also Antec makes good power supplys in my opinion.

Cool, thanks for the input. I'll be likely ordering this stuff and a HDD(idk which one, some decent 500GB+) for my brother tonight.

Oh, well, it seems I have to order this tomorrow instead now.

Though, I guess I should call Microsoft about the key thing, I can't find a straight answer online...

I have to hold off on my computer. Doing so will get me a greater budget.

Though, this is for my brother. He needs a new HDD. He plays lots of games and his OS will be on it. This one doesn't sound bad, but seems a little expensive.

it is expensive IMO. for that price, why not go for a 1TB or more?

That is really expensive for a 500 gb drive. Here's a link to a more reasonably priced 500gb and 1tb drive (which is only slightly more expensive). That PSU is good value too.

The new bulldozer AMD processors are coming out soon if they haven't already been released, which should be better than the Phenom II x4, although Intel processors have generally much better benchmarks because of superior architecture yadayada, bottom line is AMD is better bang for your buck.

The motherboard is well-priced however I have heard complaints about Asrock motherboards, i.e. BIOS poorly translated, problems with flashing, compatibility with RAM, stuff just generally failing. the fact that Asus won't put their own name on these boards says a lot. However I think for almost all users they work out ^^

i think it's interesting that gary and antie have similar avatars. like antie is gary's future self, coming back to the past and warning him about expensive hard drives.

lol joe,

But yea, 150$ for a 500GB hdd is quite a lot really, then again, hdd prices have almost doubled since the floods in Taiwan..
