there's a guy at another forum posting the exact opposite... I also prefer the Q6600 (G0 indeed) because I can get it right now at quite a low price, but how are you so sure it'll perform better than the E8500? E8500 will be faster clock for clock, because it's based on Penryn architecture, which has some improvements over Conroe. It's clocked at 3166 MHz, which is 766 more than Q6600, so it would be faster even without those improvements. It has 9.5 multi, so it means it will need less FSB to overclock than Q6600. But A q6600 can be easily overclocked to 3.2GHz on any decent motherboard, and is quad core, so while not faster in single-threaded applications, it will be much faster in normal desktop use. I have used an E6600 daily, now I have Q6600 at the same clock (well, almost) and the general responsivity is much better. Q6600 is not faster, but it's more bang per buck. And is available now, while E8500 will be available in January (if Intel does not delay the lauch, having no competition).
It also looks like Q9450 will replace Q6600 as performance/price king:

I built this new rig out of 3 old systems. Now I have a decent computer and a bunch of spare parts.

All it's really lacking is the graphics card. I'm not too sure, but I might get this decent little card for it, but it may be a tad bit expensive:

It's PNY but that's like the only really good card I could find for AGP on newegg. My mobo supports AGP 3.0 x4, and this seems to be the right card. I just want this for light gaming instead of barely making it on a 5200...

Well, it sure is a lot better than a 5200, but, I'd recommend this.

Edit: Scratch that, it's an 8x card. I didn't read your post very well.

I'd get that but it's 8x. It has to be 4x since that's all the mobo supports.

But I'll probably not buy an upgrade for it anyway. I'm probably just going to save up for an 8800 for my better computer (which I'm now on finally).

agp 4x and 8x are backwards compatible. For most games you wont even notice a difference in speed

I have the same videocard and it runs everything perfectly(with everything iI mean all the source games ,I can put all setting(except for AA) on its highest with everything still running fine.

These things are always running out of stock. They must be the most popular models out there. I'm definitely thinking about buying one. Unfortunately I'm a bit worried/confused. It says it's for PCI-E 2.2. CPU-Z states that my mainboard is just PCI-E. Not like 2.2 or something like that. Would this be a problem?

Please give me some feedback asap before these things run out of stock again!

EDIT: Ugh nevermind. Dell was shitty enough to put in only a PCI-E x16 motherboard. Expandable configuration my ass! I hate Dell...

Hmm, I just recently got some money to spend and I was wondering if this rig is good for the price:

(HP Pavilion M8125X)
Intel Core 2 Quad 6600 2.4GHz
2GB SDRAM (Exp. To 8GB)
400GB SATA (7200RPM)
NVIDIA GeForce 7350LE With TV Tuner (I know the videocard is shit, but I'm gonna dish out on an 8800.)
HP 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor

For: $999.99 CAN

The graphics card in does in fact suck ass. And the motherboard in that configuration is most likely not PCI-E 2.0 and most of your new cards out there use 2.0. Meaning you'd be in the same situation that I'm in: stuck on a 7 series card when the 9 series is about to release.

Also you'd probably have to buy a better power supply if you wanted to upgrade to an 8800 since those things require a minimum of 200 watts alone (so I've heard).

I can't choose hardware; it's an HP. But yeah, I was planning on getting an 8 series, cause they're quite cheap around here (NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT 512MB PCIe for $168.85 CAN).

I know it isn't, but 8800's are 200+$ and I'd need a new beast of a power supply, so that would be atleast 100$+, so I can manage with it till my next paycheck.

PCI-E 2.2 wtf is that i thought theres only PCI-E 2.0,1.1 and 1.0.

Also if that card(newegg deactivated the product) is a 8800GT 512MB/256MB,8800GTS 512MB(G92),HD3850 or a HD3870 it should work with mobos with PCI-E 1.1 or 1.0(of course you need it to have 16x lanes)plus the 9 series(you might get disappointed with the link i got on my sig thought it doesn't say its the flagship).

As a matter of fact i got my Power Color HD3870 up and running on a mobo that doesn't have PCI-E 2.0(Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R),its backward compatible with PCI-E 1.1 and 1.0
