3ds Max 2012 - Windows 8 CP

Postby ScarT on Mon Jul 16, 2012 11:21 am

Anyone had any success in installing 3ds Max 2012 on Windows 8 Consumer Preview? I'm getting a blank activation screen, and every solution Autodesk offers doesn't seem to help.

I'm aware that Windows 8 isn't a supported product from Microsoft nor Autodesk, but I'm still interested in hearing from others :)

Thanks!

I managed to install it just fine, no problems there. I had problems with the activation process. However I used my old student key, and it was already activated so everything is good now.

Really? I've experienced crashing on startup with the metro apps, but that's all I've seen. Everything else is smooth. The problem with 3ds Max 2012 is Autodesk being stupid and not ditching an old system from 2004 that relies on a third party ActiveX component.

Anyway, I fixed my problem.

Why would you even install Windows 8?

Mircrosoft uses a tic-toc style development cycle for Windows going back to 3.1. 3.1 was awesome, 95 was a big upgrade but sucked, 98 was awesome, Me was a big upgrade but sucked, XP was awesome, Vista was a big upgrade but sucked, 7 was awesome, and 8 is a big upgrade but sucks. Just wait for 9.

Or SteamOS.

As for 3DsMax, Autodesk isn't being stupid they are just a massive monopoly that doesn't give a shit about their products and prefers to be lazy and not try while eating up the competition so they don't have to put effort in.
