Looking for Nvidia GeForce 9800M GTX

Postby peegee on Thu Oct 31, 2013 9:51 am

My graphic card is down. :(
I already purchased an used one, but this was defect as well.
It can't be purchased as a new one, so I am still looking for a used one.
If any one has this model / knows one who like to sell a
Nvidia GeForce 9800M GTX for my Dell XPS,
it would be a pleasure to know and a step forward for my
mod and my mood.

Thank you!

It's for a laptop, right? If not, I have a "nvidia 260 gtx oc" here that I could sell to you.

I had this same problem years ago with an XPS, which had a 7900 Go GTX.

It died and the warranty was up, so I went looking for the graphics card to replace.

Turns out old laptop graphics cards are rare and "specialty" items, and people wanted hundreds of dollars over what they are worth just for the card.

You might consider just saving up for a new laptop, sometimes luck FUCKS you and it's just better to move on than try to keep things going..............

It's right, the 260 gtx oc won't fit, Thanks anyway

@sredfire: right,
they are rare, but I do not give up hoping.

Wouldn't it be a better idea to buy a new PC/laptop instead? Just pull out the HD and you wont lose any data.

These are truly deep words. I feel your pain, good sir.

But yeah, you're probably better off saving up for a new laptop. But if you want one that will game well, it'll definitely cost a pretty penny. You'd probably be much better off building a low-budget mini-ITX system that has a lot of upgrade potential. Mini-ITX systems can be really compact depending on the case you get. It's not as portable as a laptop, obviously, but it's much more affordable and customizable.

Are you sure that they cannot be reflowed?; If the "death" was caused by an overheating scenario then it *may* be fixed with a reflow. A moderate amount of overheated cards aren't dead, the chip is just not connected right anymore, the problem is this: If you send it away to be done and the guy cannot test it after the reflow, he probably wont refund your money if the card is actually dead(meaning the reflow was pointless).

Personally I'd just buy a new laptop; I'd be making the case to myself to do so based on these facts: It's old, getting sentimental about microchips is pointless, everything else on it is probably going to fail in rapid succession as soon as I fix it and it's not worth the time/effort, though good luck with whichever you choose.

@Jeeves: Reflow soldering works sometimes, when one experience a complete black screen.
In my case it may be a memory problem or a sli problem.

You might be right buying a new laptop or mini itx.

Thank you for your help

I think I found one in our recycle bin at work. If you still need it let me know, I'll send it to you if you are in the states. (if its still there)

I'd give it to you free, but shipping & customs would cost more than just buying one there.
