Completely agree. You don't see other social animals killing each other because of a lack in religion.

Norway is rated first place in the Human Development Index, only ~%20 of the population find religion to be of any importance ~%5 go to church.

"Without god people would have no restraints against killing each other"

That scares me right there. So the only reason those people don't go around killing people is because of a belief? They seem very unstable. To me that says, I want to kill you but I'm chained to a wall so I can't atm. I however am unrestrained and very friendly <3 Nothing against the chained up people but I would rather live in a world where nobody's intent is on killing anyone and they are free to roam and live there lives.

Religion is extremely idiotic. It's hate mongering shit.

Religion is not idiotic, nor hate mongering.

Religious extremism is hate mongering.

There is a diffrence.

The reason I posted it was because I found it interesting and it was a point of view some people have on this subject. But I really hate how people bash those who choose to believe in a higher power. I do not come on here and bash those who do not believe in god, nor do I try to persuade them to change their beliefs. To me that would be idiotic. The fact is that the basis of all religion, in its intent is to be peaceful. Does anyone know where morals come from? Are they built into our brains from birth, or are they learned? At the beginning of time mankind was brutal. The introduction of religion played a part in the civilizing of society. Take a look at the 10 commandments for instance. Two of them in specific. Thou shall not steal and thou shall not kill. Two things that in, I am pretty sure every country, are actual laws. Whether you believe God passed them along to Moses or not, they where written with God in mind. To this day people still follow them.

Anyway, I often wonder how many people on here say there is no God but celebrate Christmas, Valentines Day, or St. Patrick's Day? Either way, I wish people who do not believe in God would not bash those who do. Because if you notice most of us who do believe in a higher power do not bash you for not believing...

Unfortunately that'd be based on personal experience, and I've been bashed for then accepted by religious persons for not believing in a higher power.

You're an idiot, as demonstrated, though also no doubt American, in which case your pride is excused.

This makes you sound like the generic a-hole on the internet who thinks all Americans are the same. You can claim to know everything about American culture, but you'll never know what it's truly like until you actually live here. Sure America has its fair share of idiots, but when people generalize Americans as such, it really angers me. There's the other half of America you obviously haven't discovered.

All you really need to know is the following:

America's government is corrupt to shit.

There are people all over the world just like what Americans are commonly perceived as.

lol I think that thou shalt not kill is universal, not something introduced by religion. It was probably pretty obvious to even the neanderthals that killing someone is not nice / good. Oh and when religion had total domination it was called the middle ages, great job.

Exactly, you don't really see rabbits killing rabbits much either, or other animals unless it's in their nature to do so, which they usually do for a reason.. (leadership and so forth). Religion was created with the mind of what's best for humanity (mostly), not the other way around. In my opinion.

Statements like that are what corrupt ideological establishments. I won't say you're a hypocrite... or anything else, but if that statement was inserted into a more lengthy, thought-out post, people might have taken it as a joke at least.

I do think it's quite hypocrite to call religion "Hate mongering shit", if you think about it you've just done the same thing back.

So... I read the first post, then the first page. Then come to the last, and there's stuff about religion?

Derail much? Anyways, I'm 13, and I don't really get the urge to act like an idiot in public. I'm like that quiet guy, you see sitting on a chair, blinking in the distance and you think, "Wow, what a lazy bastard..." but really I'm doing something really interesting you can't see... Like adding up the price of all the animals in that window, over there.
If you looked around for a window, by god you're stupid. Then again I'm atheist... Wait, so I've said "By god you're stupid" but then said I don't believe in god...

OH GOD, HELP! MY BRAIN! Aw yeah, just put a twig on the tracks...

That's an immature view. Religion is a variable equation and open to debate, and also your opinion is antiquicated - we're no longer anti-religion zealots crusading in our own way against God, we get to choose our path, and if a few nutters get fanatical then that's their lookout.

I suppose the UKs prominent Muslim population has come under some flak but generally we just let them be - it's not their fault 0.01% of them want to be Martyrs. But that's beside the point.

Notable that certain immigrant percentages in the UK are more hard working than the whites. Not sure how that fits in, but gang culture is pretty, well, messed up, and consists of mainly blacks and whites. Hardly any asians. Odd.

You may have not noticed that I say "in which case you're excused" and thus, essentially, defeat my own argument. Along with that, I later say to MrProudfoot that I "know little about American culture". I'm not sufficiently bigoted to rip the piss out of somewhere I don't live. Naturally your assumption that; A, I am, and B, I'm an arsehole, are somewhat prejudiced. Unfortunately my interactions with Americans tend to be limited exchanges like this because many of 'you' are highly aggressive, which is unfortunate; you're as different to us as we are to Australia, and I respect that. So again, sorry if that comment caused any offence, none was intended :smt023

By the way, an amendment to your comment. Our governments = shit.

Ben Stein is an idiot.
He credited PZ Meyers in his movie "Expelled" and then kicked him out of the preview. And he deliberately mis-interpreted Dawkins.

As for todays youth, I'm a Brit, and yes I've had my fair share of encounters with chavs. But the problem lies with intelligence, or rather lack of it, as I think you'd all agree that if you made a chart of "chavishness", as it were, and intelligence you would find a correlation.

Anywho, that's nothing compared to what the future generations are going to be like. Deliberately misinformed. And notice that this guy is Australian, not American.

Btw, this isn't a religious debate, I think we're able to focus on science here. Or the lack of, anyway.
