What is your Political view?

Postby MayheM on Tue Mar 02, 2010 8:47 pm

I know a lot of people have an idea of what party they think they follow. Well there is a thing called the Nolan Chart that displays Where you actually fall in the political spectrum. I found it pretty interesting where I fell. So I figured I would post the link to the quiz that will tell you where you fall.

or for people outside US

I like that it is not a "Republican" vs "Democrat" cart, so it allows for people outside the US to participate...

CENTRISTS espouse a "middle ground" regarding government control of the economy and personal behavior. Depending on the issue, they sometimes favor government intervention and sometimes support individual freedom of choice.

Centrists pride themselves on keeping an open mind, tend to oppose "political extremes," and emphasize what they describe as "practical" solutions to problems.

I'd say that's probably accurate, but the test is very heavily American-focused. I'm not too familiar with the inner workings of certain aspects of your glorious country.

Let me quickly say I do not want this to become a debate as to who is right and who is wrong. This is only to see what everyone thinks since everyone has his or her own opinion.

That's why I used the one from theadvocates.org. It's basically the same test but not focussed on the US.

Then why call it wrong? :P jk

I got centralist liberal. Over here I'd be a full on Labour supporter.

Despite the fact I'm rather torn between conservative and labour.

And BNP.

I don't trust these kinds of "find your label" things too much since it's pretty easy to use them to do a "land-grab" of the range of opinions and then label them as you wish.

A: "You believe X? You should vote with us."
B: "No, we include X as well, come over here. At least, don't go with group C."
C: "Are you kidding? X is clearly a C position and you should vote C in the future.'

I want to reform our voting system to eliminate the spoiler effect. Then you'll see some real political parties and issue-based voting.

I didn't think I was that conservative. It's probably like that because of my views on gun control, but oh well.

Well the way the chart is set up you have two contributing sides which determines you political view. Social and government. Liberal and conservative are the two sides of the social scale, while libertarian and statist are the opposite sides of the government scale. Libertarians believe in very small government, Anarchy being at the very top of that scale. While statists believe in big government the bottom of the scale being communism and or facisim. So liberal vs conservative is your view on social issues like religion, same sex marriage and stuff like that, while libertarian vs statist is your view on how much government you want in your life. make sense?
