Looking for some programmers to help w/ Island Fever

Postby Sargon24 on Tue May 22, 2007 10:30 pm

Island Fever is now a mod.

Hey guys, I'm looking for some programmers to help with my current project called Island Fever.

Information:
Island Fever is a game that is being developed on Valve's Source Engine. Island Fever will be expanding and taking the source engine to the next level. Island Fever will be using it's own textures, models, maps, animations, designs and so much more. Not even the HUD will be the same as Half-Life 2. In this game, there will be a long, epic single player campaign that takes place on the island of Kaleidoscope. There will be a variety of different environments and landscapes throughout this vast island. This adventure takes place in the year 2017, so you can definitely expect some pretty high tech assault rifles, shotguns, snipers, and more. You will also being seeing a variety of vehicles such as a four wheeler or an enemy APC. Also, you will see many types of enemies and AI behavior. There will be different classes of grunts based off strength, and weapons. As well as new monsters, allies and civilians. In the final product you may see Multiplayer or it may be released after the single player. We have not planned that yet, we are mostly focusing on working hard on the Single Player campaign.

So overall, in Island Fever, you will see:
- A long, exhilarating singe player campaign containing hours of fun.
- Many high tech weapons, such as assault rifles, shotguns, etc.
- A variety of environments and landscapes throughout the Single Player Campaign.
- Driveable Vehicles.
- New enemies and AI behavior.
- An expansion of the source engine
- New models, maps, textures, etc.
- And So much more!

If you would like to help out with this wonderful project please do not hesitate to send me a Private Message. Examples of work are required, because I am looking for the best of the best to help work on this project. I will be willing to put my heart and soul into this project and definitely will not give up on this. I will be there 24/7 and will be ready to talk to anyone who needs/wants to at all times.

This is going to be a big project and of course a big project takes a big team.

I came here to look for people who are interested in joining the team. I am looking for programmers/Coders. But we also have many spots open such as Level Designers, modelers, concept artists, voice actors, story writers, SFX specialists, and a whole lot more.

I just started this this project the day before yesterday and we already have a few dedicated members:

*Sargon24 - Leader/PR/Story Writer

*razor950 - Coder/scripter

*Stubby - Level Designer

*banny - Weapon/Prop/Vehicle

Well you say you get this

Being on the team will get you the following:
- A cut when sold.
- Access to our teams ventrilo server
- A moderator status on the forums
- A spot on on the dev team
- Your own page on the site (member pages coming soon)
- and soooo much more!

When on the team, im just wondering, "A cut when sold." though ive never heard of you, and since the project being a mod, and if it being sold over steam, i should have seen some steam news.

Access to ventrilo servers, wow!

moderator status on some forums, well, personally i dont care about having "the power" to delete threads or other forum moderater stuff.

A spot on the dev team. o´rly ? sorry but why do you write that ?

My page on a site, which is comming soon, i dont promise people to get things which aint finished.

And you have nothing to show, which is a bad thing when looking for coders, those dont grow on trees

the idea sounds very generic and i see no reason why you would aim for a commercial product rather than a mod. what prior experience have you had in games development... any?

i don't mean to sound harsh but at present your goal is very unrealistic. you need to think this through properly, start with a small free project and see how it goes

At first I thought, wow this guy really got his stuff planned, and sounds like the mod is already far in development!
But then you demanded only the best of the best when you don't have anything to show, your website is a Freewebs (yes, that is a bad thing), your forums are hosted on InvisionFree (a bad thing too) these things really suggest the mod being that serious when it all comes to an end :?

Not to only focus on the "bad" things, your post was really thought through! Which is important!

My two cents (I considered joining as a coder in the beginning of your post)

I was reading your ModDB profile comments.

I think you don't realise that you can't sell a mod unless you purchase a license. Valve will let you sell, or distribute for free, directly through steam without one if it is good enough, which it won't be.

NO OFFENSE TO YOU!! But, name four mod's that are now distributed through steam (not counting CS, DoD, etc. as those were bought by valve.) You can't.

It sounds really cool though, and I hope you succeed. Best of luck to you!

p.s. If your Mod becomes one of the top Mods being played then you will appear in the store using the information you supply to the vdc on your mod page. BUT, it won't be downloadable through steam.

personally I'd wait for Crysis for this type of thing

a leader should never only be PR and story

I'm not just PR/Story. I can also do some basic coding (which is why im looking for coders) and I'm also a level designer who's been creating maps for about a year. But, I need to concentrate on the story. Because I have a vast amount of ideas and the story is huge. And no, this is not a farcry rip off.

No offense, but no coder wants to work for a "story guy".

If you are the leader of the mod, you damn well better know how to do a whole hell of alot, or else noone will want to work with you on his project. I agree also with
SgtJman, this sounds more like a Farcry or Crysis mod... Source just isn't built well for this sort of thing.

You will need a strong design document, some initial media and concepts and a good story outline before most coders would even consider jumping on something like this. Just from reading what you have planned here, this mod would take at least a year or 2 to develop.
