Noob questions!

Postby 1447 on Tue May 29, 2007 4:10 pm

I'm not sure if this is coding at all, but anyway, I have a few questions:

1) How do I make a Icon-file (http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/1377/roflqb5.jpg)? As far as I understand, this is the file that shows the little image on the right in Steam.

2) Yesterday, I decided I was going to make a mod. So, I did. Now, when I select my mod in the dropdown-menu in Source SDK, create a map and try to compile, I get this:

Image

When I try to run my mod from Steam, I get this:

Image

So, what am I doing wrong this time?

And please, don't laugh at my questions, I have to learn it somewhere...

Your mod needs .dll's in it, open up the sourcesdk base gcf and get the client and server dll files from the bin folder.

You're running Vista too, could throw up a whole bunch of problems, since steam vista support still isn't up to a decent level.

Did you actually compile a mod from source ? (Using Visual Studio or equivalent editor)

Jman: I found out what you meant, but every single website where I can download GCFScape, is down:S Any idea? Anyone who have the download-file maybe?

Forceflow: I've got no idea what you are talking about.. When I created a mod, it ended up in the list of my games in Steam. Btw, Vista sucks, I know:P

EDIT: Not all the websites were down, I found one:) Here it is!

But I'm still wondering about the Icon-file!

He means that when you created the new mod, did you open up the source code in Visual Studio and compile it?

No, I didn't do that. I just double-click it in Steam.

But another question about the Icon-file: I found out how to make a image appear in steam, but it is WAY to big! How big should the file be?

I think it's 16x16. Look up GameInfo.txt on the wiki -- it should mention it there.

Ah, you were in fact just starting vanilla HL2DM. Sorry, wasn't immediately clear to me.

I've got a new problem, this time the mod has disappeared from the dropdown-menu in Source SDK:S As far as I can see, it disappeared after I installed the .dll-files.. But I can be wrong...

And another thing: When I run my mod, the console won't open.. I have entered -console in the 'Launch options'...
