Game Website: http://hatintime.com/

I am currently working on “A Hat in Time” by Gears for Breakfast as "3D Art Director". The game is still in early development but it has already received widespread interest on several gaming news websites such as Kotaku and Destructoid. My role involves creating all the levels that the player will explore as well as directing the environment art style to the other artists on the team. Additionally I am involved in the Level Design and have contributed gameplay ideas / mechanics that have made it into the current version of the game.

I've updated with my new university degree and I'm getting back into the Unreal engine and loving it. Going to make a simple example piece using default assets and post that up in the future to show I have some Unreal experience.

Added some UDK pictures of a level I made in 3 days to basically show I can use UDK for basic things.

Three days to make that level, really? You know I hate you. That map looks awesome and it's not even compiled properly.

Are you using the UDK that you can download through Steam. I was just wondering if that version is always up-to-date.

I assume that the lighting in that UDK map is not built?

You only get shadows that sharp with Preview. I wish it really was that pretty.

Thank you City 14.

Doctor Who, I used the one downloaded off of their website. Funny thing is that Steam recognises it and says I'm playing it when I'm using it outside of Steam. The one on steam if it's the one that comes with UT3 then no. I actually used that first of all and noticed I was missing materials and actor options so I tried the UDK and woila I found something much better. It crashes a lot but that's only cause it's beta.

Oh and yeah three days. It goes to show how much faster the workflow is with UE compared to Hammer. I still hold a place in my heart for Hammer but UDK is winning me over.

Banter, you're right it's not built at production level but it was built using the preview option. I actually tried production and it managed to work only 50 minutes and the % was still at 0 so I said forget that.

That map (aztec) comes free with the UDK package including all assets. All he did was rearrange all of the models.

Mmmm yes and no. I mean when I read it like that I assume I took the level and moved some models around. Basically yes I used props, textures and particles that came with the editor (same as Source and its content) and made a simple level by spreading props around. Actually no, spreading is an offence, I actually thought of a story and came up with reasons behind the positions of the models.

For example I imaginated that the civilisation that lived there worshiped the purple stones that you can see in one of the pictures. It gave them the power to travel to different locations through portals. But something happened and the civilisation died and the area overgrew with vegetation. The only reason the area near the portal isn't overgrown is because it has a strange power that prevents anything growing near it. It also looks the way it does because the portal is going out of control due to lack of management and expanding into that mess you see.

But I get ya :D This isn't that impressive since Lightmass does all the work.

The next big step is to learn to import custom models and build a level that's unique. Should be interesting.

My bad, yeah I didnt mean to come off as a jerk, but I dont think its fair to take credit for what essentially is an awesome model pack regardless of how its rearranged.

The point of this is to show off how he can learn the editor within 3 days, and use contents that were made for him appropriately with the editor. Since in a real level design situation, you wouldn't necessarily be in charge of creating props and other tasks, and since he has already shown that he can model props, it's super important to show flexibility above all else.
