First attempt at doing my portfolio template, help

Postby trcc on Sun Dec 20, 2009 3:29 am

Hey lopers,

I'm working on my portfolio now and I would like to have feedback on the very basic design I just did.

Am I using too many colors?
Buttons?
Font?
Overall design is appealing or just really, really random?

Basically, I want a portfolio that is clean, with a professional look without going overboard.

Wix is pretty good and user friendly to make websites, and it's free, that's why I went for it.

Links on the site are broken, but I like the colour scheme. Perhaps make the mouse-over colour for your buttons a darker gray, though?

Links are not set up yet so that's correct.

The mouse-over color is set to the same of my name. What If i blend it with the dark gray that the left and right button overlaps?

I don't think blending it would be quite right, what I meant was that since most of your colours are dark grays the light gray is quite a contrast.

Also, the bar along the bottom and the white stripe on the right look funky and out of place. Not sure what you plan to do with them though

I see what you mean. I asked a friend and he said the bar at the bottom was out of place too. The white bar was there to contrast with the the different tones of gray but I could duplicate the left side and rotate 180.

It was also to break the symmetry that most site usually have. That's the idea behind the white/black bars on the right. :|

Ah, I see. Well, I just went back on it and it looks much nicer now (did you change the white to a gray?) :) Now it just needs some portfolio pieces ;)

Yes I did. I took your advice and modified it to my taste. I'm pretty satisfied for now for the amount of work I put into it. ( 2-3 hours ).

Thanks for your help :smt023

sorry but i absolutely detest flash only websites, and im not the only one. Especially since none of the flash on your site has effects that are actually beneficial over html n shiz.

You're saying it would increase the chances of getting hired if I used a website with no flash instead of a website made in flash that does not look like one? Eww I don't see the point.

I think that he means that if you made the same site in HTML, it would load faster and you wouldn't have to worry about flash compatibility.

After taking a look at Wix, and trying to make a 'portolio' page to my tastes, I think it'd be much easier to buy Dreamweaver and a domain :|

"buy" haha :P I will consider this option.. but for now, I will stick to wix. I remember back at highschool I was working a bit with html and dreamweaver, shouldn't be too hard and I was dumb at the time.

Hehe, I meant that I was considering Dreamweaver for myself, (and actually buying it, not "argh"-ing :P ). I like Adobe products, and maintaining a portfolio is something I'll be doing throughout and after college.

Also, it's only $130 or something on Campus Tech ^^
