Speed Model Challenge #1 - Medieval Weapons

Postby BaRRaKID on Sat Feb 16, 2008 5:21 pm

So here it is the first speed modelling challenge! This one will be used as a test run, to see if the format and rules will work, but you will still get points from this.
Here are the requirements for this challenge:

You have 120 minutes to create a medieval weapon.
You cannot skin the final model (but you can post a skinned version as an wip).
Your final render needs to include:

Your name or nickname;
Time spent creating the model;
Number of tris used;
A wireframe of the model;
A "beauty render";

It's ok if you take more then 2 hours to create the model.
You can create more then one mode.

We recommend that you post your final picture using a clay render, click here to learn how to do it.

The rules can be found here
Here are some links with reference images:

The challenge will end tomorrow at around 6pm GMT, go here to see how much time you've left.

Good Luck everyone :)

Guess it's time for me to polish my modeling skills so I can compete in this! Best thing I've made is a bench following Vivi's tutorials.

btw, bit embarrased to ask, but can someone direct me to a good "how to render with beautifull lighting" tutorial? been looking everywhere but most of the ones i found redirect me to softimage.com which says "page not found".
also, how do i see Tris? :P (yea im very new to this)

edit: oh, almost forgot. im quite done with this, maybe some optimization and making my model use tris, but thats it. so that was about 20 minutes of modeling, 10 minutes of searchign a good looking Voulge reference and 30 minutes on how to get the rendering to work! >.<

hmm I recommend you search for "clay render" usually adds a nice touch.

This is ridiculos - "you have 120 minutes to create a model, you can take over two hours if you want too."

What?? You may as well say you have 24 hours to model it.

Ridiculos either make it a day long or 120 minutes long, and if its 120 just give people a couple of days notice so they know what the timings are.

This might be good

Basically look up "global illumination" or "final gather" when you're looking for tutorials.

I'm not sure I understand the amount of time we have to make this. Do we have 120 minutes, or two hours, or until 6pm GMT tomorrow? Or all three?

120 minutes is 2 hours. :P

And I think it all means: take two hours to make a model or models, but if you go over a bit that's fine. It will end tomorrow so people that don't notice the challenge right away will still have a chance get in on it.
