I would not have accepted your entry if you hadn't rerendered, so good thing you did.

But about the triangle/polygon thing, think of this, a cube is made up of 6 faces, aka polygons, however if you start drawing diagonal lines from one corner to another on all 6 faces you get 12 triangles. Which means your triangle count is generally higher than your polygon count, and is a better way of judging how much detail there is in a model.

Apparently the way to find out your triangle count in Max is like this

"Right-click on the viewport label.
Go to Configuration: Statistics tab.
Turn on Triangle Count "
