Oh fuck it's triangle count.

why not poly count? I made something that is ~1000 polys...

Do I need to re-render mine then?

When you're modelling for a game engine you have to think in tris because that's how game engines have to render stuff, it must be broken down into triangles. If you've ever looked at wireframes in the Model Viewer you'll see nothing but triangulated meshes. If you've ever used mat_wireframe 1 in a Source game, you will again see nothing but triangles.

Counting in polygons is like measuring distance in a mix of centimeters, meters, and kilometers, then calling them all one word, "units" and saying point A is 1000 units from point B. Well that way you can have the distance from A to B be as short as 1000 centimeters or as long as 1000 kilometers, or anything in between, depending on what "units" you used.

The same logic applies when you've got a mesh containing 3, 4, and 5 sided polygons. They all count as one poly, but counting the polys in that mesh will give you a number that doesn't accurately reflect how much detail there is in it.

To WoeKitten - I hate to say it, but yes. That'll need a re-render.

To Habboi - You don't have to include time spent, but I'll post it with your finals if you enter it.

To meshed - You can do anything you want with your model. :smt023

No problem, shouldn't take too long.

Do I need to do anything more than just re-rendering the model in grey and cutting it down to 2 images?

Yes, I think I'll be needing your credit card and social security numbers. Also your date of birth and full name and address.

Hope it's not too much trouble. I know I'm a bit nit picky, but bear with me.

lol

It's good to be nit-picky but it would help to make the rules more clear :)

Finals.

Postby Dr. Delta on Mon Apr 27, 2009 7:12 pm

Here are my finals of my space capsule.

Tried to make a capsule/shuttle used in Russian space craft. The object on the top front of the space craft is a rocket which is able to rotate the space craft (very) slowly. (for docking and such) The main rocket engine is the back end of the space craft.

Polys: 473
Tris: 1.000

You should've called this a Tri Limit Challenge if it goes by tri limit. ;)

I am trying to optimize right now but that means I have to get rid of half the polys which is proving to be rather difficult to do.

I guess you don't like the colors of it nor the render. D:

Rules thread should have been up before the challenge.
/ Speed Challenge rules don't apply in TRIS limit challenge ( I suppose ) /

FYI: Woe Kitten is also using non-grey scale color(s).

I love the render Delta, reminds me of cell shading. the red may go against the rules but it sure does look awesome. :D

Thanks :D

but there aren't any rules yet? Current rules are for speed challenge not poly/tri/what-ever challenge :)
