funny you should say that, my Portal project (which I consider to be some good mapping, tho that could be biased ;) ) started out as a map for the portal-gun mod in GMOD. Back then, I didn't know what Snap-To-Grid was, nor how to seal a map proper. My whole mapping ethic SUCKED. Basically, my HDD crashed so I started anew for the real Portal. I had mapped a little more for Source, and gotten way better. Recently, I went and looked at a backup of one test-chamber from my old map. I felt so ashamed that I created this misaligned, fucked-up pile of rubbish!

Oh yea, point of that ramble is this: If the core idea is good, keep it and run with it. I didn't use any of my original content, but I did use my "blueprints" and plans for levels. 90% of them turned out to work great, needing only minor tweaking.

Here is a room I was making to test how survivors would get points over time allowing them to buy boards of wood to seal the windows.

And here is a cable car I was testing to see how well it would work if the survivors on the inside has to shoot infected off the top while the infected could slash at the support and eventually break sending the car and the survivors downward.

Yeah I really like it. Could be good for a HL2DM map or some other mod with a space/metal style.

There are some great looking maps here... gucia and moroes' especially caught my eye.

like those uber green lights in your map don't fit (dark_veil MGS map)

but yeah armageddon those are some nice pieces there, same for guss!

everyone knows me for this, so i'm going to throw this in the pile,
my highway map, the third map i ever started work on, saw over a year of progress only to be scrapped because of inefficiencies.
