Chugging away at a new map. Setting goals and time frames for this one to see what I can accomplish with a tighter work ethic. 2 hours a night minimum.

How does the name of the map relate to the theme? With "fuel" I 'd expect a gasstation or an oilrefinery or something like that ...

Looks good so far. I would tend to disagree on the name not having to relate. Unless it is done for a reason naming something an arbitrary name is silly. Like making a map set at a lake and calling is de_dessert. It makes no sense... You want to give the player and idea of the environment. I guess you could take de_inferno into consideration as far as a name that does not relate, but fuel does sound like it would be a gas station or pipeline of some kind...

Sorry, went on a bit there. It does look like a solid start though.

I don't disagree completely, but fuel doesn't have 1 meaning. It can "fuel" political agendas, ideas, pressure, etc.

It's looking good so far, but the name is what truly defines a map. It's what makes people click on a link for it, it's all people have to run off when it's in the lobby list, it's what they remember it by, it's what sets a fundamental expectation up in their minds. I also expected yet another gas station/refinery only to find a nice, old school cobalt grey map that looks totally different from what I envisioned.

Never underestimate the power of every element you put into your map - the name is just as important. If you're going to keep it simple, at least make it relate very heavily to the theme. Cases in point; cs_office, cs_italy, cs_chateau. You remember them, you identify them, you know what they're about. Simple, but effective. Hell, de_dust conveys a very particular image.

Even the name for my WIP NMRiH map is nmo_benzyn - 'fuel' in Ukrainian. What does it tell you? We're in an Eastern Bloc country, and the map will be focused around gasoline. The main objective location? A gas station. The main objective? A gas can. Hollow's map? Can't really remember the name. de_contention maybe? I had to look up Sathor's de_investment, which is ok at best. de_blackgold? Brilliant. Concise, to the point, a fantastic summary,

Seriously man, I absolutely love the style. Don't wreck it with a shit name or one that doesn't fit.

It's a good point. de_contention was only really a temporary name as it literally means "a struggle between opponents; competition" which describes Counter-Strike well. But I am likely going to change it before release to be more thematically fitting.

Name it de_deviant_troll :smt023 Ok back to the map, It's looking good... the one thing that stands out as odd is how skinny (width) the first building to the left is. I'd hate to live in something that small unless this is based on any screen references of a real building? :D

It is a temp name, as I'm sure its already taken. I do like to come up with unique names that are simple and catchy when server ops change maps. I made a dod:s map named "schlag" which is german for "to strike, blow, hit".

Im using this location as kinda of reference. here here
But also using Italy, Inferno, and Mirage as well.

Ah yes, google maps is A LOT of fun to use when mapping.... You can get all sorts of great architecture ideas and quick! :smt023 Look forward to seeing more!
