I've got a proper alyxgun installed that by default uses the SMG sounds. I wanted to make it sound more authentic, so I changed its firing sounds to the only alyxgun firing sound there is, weapon_Alyx_Gun.NPC_Single. Well, in game this didn't work and the gun was silent. Suggestions?

You shouldn't edit the script to change the sound, you need to replace the SMG fire sound with the one you want to use.

Extract the Alyx gun fire sound from the Sourcesounds.gcf archive then rename it to replace the default smg fire sound, and you should be good.
