Free Autodesk Software (3DS, Maya...)

Postby Zecrah on Mon Apr 23, 2012 9:37 pm

I assumed this was well known but perhaps I'm mistaken - none of my friends seemed to have heard of this so I thought the same situation may apply to Interlopers. If you do, well hey no harm done.

You're able to download any free Autodesk software - legally of course - if you are a student. This applies to Secondary School, Sixth Form, College, University - pretty much any form of education entitles you to use any piece of their software with no restrictions on the software itself. You can access the latest and the last few versions in a variety of languages and for 32/64 bit. You can access learning materials, support sections, examples of others' work and more stuff. Pretty good really.

This includes 3DS Max, Maya and so fourth. My school wasn't actually listed, but I added the address and it worked instantly. (I'm UK) I believe the only usual restriction is you may not use it commercially. But for learning, and non-commercial mods/maps, you can design away.

While I'm on the subject, Autodesk also offer the XSI mod tool free for non-commercial mods, without needing to be a student. (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc ... d=13571257)

Again, nothing lost nothing gained if you knew this. If you didn't, lots gained I'm sure.

Edit:
This might be better in Art Creation, not sure. Also aware this was posted previously, but that was two years ago... :smt021

Already am a user of this system for around three years now. Its great for people like me who want the software, but cant be arsed to pay or pirate it.

I think in Germany it only applies to certain courses of studies, like architecture and engineering.

I am a student, but I am studying law. Can't see why I should gain student access ...

They should just make it free for noncommercial use.

Yeah I am using the latest Softimage program right now because of this very handy student pass. Shame on me though, because I was the one who forgot to post about it like you did.

I just found out about this earlier in the year, it's so helpful! I think they make every (or almost every) program in the Autodesk suite available.
