What's it do aside from slice and stab people? Does the steam rapidly heat the blade to cause incredible pain to the victim, or maybe it makes the blade move?

Awesome model regardless. Looks very cool.

I'm guessing it's a WASP knife

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wasp_knife

http://www.waspknife.com/about.php

The second Link wrote:This weapon injects a freezing cold ball of compressed gas, approximately the size of a basketball, at 800psi nearly instantly. The effects of this injection will drop many of the world's largest land predators. The effects of the compressed gas not only cause over-inflation during ascent when used underwater, but also freezes all tissues and organs surrounding the point of injection on land or at sea.

Also, shit, I guess I should finish mine.

That sounds like it would be incredibly painful. I'm surprised something like that is even legal.

Looking good for all the different kinds of models. Sure wish we had the same kind of pool of modders for concept art.

Current artstyle may can be found here

With all the great ideas that came about last time, let's see what we can do with something a bit more unique.

Design and model an explosive device. This can be anything from a grenade, to a time bomb, to a landmine, or more...

Let's see the steampunk mad scientist in you come alive!

Voting this go around will be tallied by Facebook photo likes, with alternate voting available on the Osiris Studio forums.

Have fun creating and we look forward to seeing what you come up with!

1) Drew up some ideas on paper, you don't want to see these

2) Blockout that basic idea in Max.

3) Expand on idea.

4) Expand abit more.

5) Turn into a lowpoly.

6) Normals and AO.

7) Texturing to come.

I'm going to Leeds music fest in 4-5 days, I probably won't be happy with the textures at that stage so please judge accordingly! If people like this I'll be more than happy to continue work on the textures when I return. :)

Cheers!

Some good looking stuff there. Livewire's explosive seems almost to box-ish for it's own good and I am not sure why. Maybe a good UV can turn it around, but it does not seem to accent the other components as well imo.

Otherwise I am glad to see you are still getting a good turn out Don. Sometimes contests do not go over as well from my own experience but yours has done very well. I would have made a really good entry on this myself were it not for the fact I am a year under the age limit required for your rules. Best of luck to the rest of you who can go through with this though. :smt023

Looks decent but I just cannot side with the boxishness of it. It's to bad no one took up anything similar to my idea. Always thought Spike balls/mines would be a really cool steam punk explosive. Still looks good nonetheless, and is definitely not a shabby winner if it turns out to be so.
