That is one HD can sir. Looks like you got a specular map on the metal too, if I am correct. Good job.

I was messing around with an old model in source and I noticed it suffers the same problem as your model which is the diffuse isn't detailed enough to make up for the simplistic phong highlights. What I mean to say is the your metal doesn't read as metal without the phong highlighting and so for a lot of the time (lack of highlights) the model will look flat.

My old model for example

Ill probably keep it that way, it looks pretty nice either way. :P

Try adding cubemap reflections (very subdued), or rimlighting. Could help with the metal look

The upper parts are fine, it's the base that is lacking. I would avoid black and go for a more greyish tone like the little bit connecting the base to the red and white section. I'd also avoid a normal map if you're using one, doesn't look like it needs it. I suppose you have to ask yourself, what material is it? Right now it reads like black rock.
