Hi, I know it's a little late but here's two good tutorials from the SDK wikki.

http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Creating_A_Fire_Particle

http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Particle_Muzzle_Flash

The first (the fire tut), I followed and and deviated a little to make this blob:

I didn't really plan anything for it but I was experimenting with this little background map (It's meant to be very low resource).

It's not finished yet, I've recently just changed the particle to Blue,Red and green versions, so I can have the pyramid change texture and laser colour to coincide with the particle colours.

And wow some of you have made some pretty cool things with the editor, I must play more with this toy! :smt045

I'm doing it for the first time. I made a pretty good snow particle only problem is after 1 thousand particles spawn they just keep falling infinate. I need to know how I can make them remove and respawn after a few seconds. Thanks!

You need the operators Alpha Fade and Decay, Alpha Fade In and Alpha Fade Out. The Alpha Fade In/Out will handle the timing and the Fade and Decay will automatically delete the particles once they are completely transparent at the end of the Alpha Fade Out.

put it in the particle_manifest.txt? "name of pcf"
or make sure you have the right name of the certain particle**** as of partytest1.pcf/tester1

if it was the last.. simply put tester1 for particle name.. :P

where is the particle_manifest.txt? And how does the engine know that 'partytest1' is 'tester1'?

you dont put the name of a pcf in hammer. like for my nukes its nuke.pcf but inside its nuke_final1 so it will know that nuke_final1 is in the nuke.pcf if you put it in the manifest.txt
