Really strange, steam and udk.

Help and discussion relating to UnrealEd and the UDK

Really strange, steam and udk.

Postby keldorn on Wed Nov 24, 2010 1:50 pm

I loaded up UDK and tried a sample map, I think it was a unreal tournament, played it for a minute.
When I died by the enemy bots I saw my steam name appear on the game. Really strange. How is this possible? UDK has nothing do to with valve's steam thing. lol?

That is pretty odd, did you launch it through steam. If so that's my best guess as to where it gets that information from.

Unconfirmed Steam detection support maybe?

I don't have UDK atm but maybe it can detect Steam installations.
(in this case it would seem it does)

Are you sure you didn't just name your player the same thing in Steam and Unreal?

When I launch UDK I come up as in game in steam even though the UDK does not appear in my steam games or tools. I assume UDK has detection, unreal tournament definitely has steam achievements so I assume it already runs with 'steam works'.

I've had the same issue.

I played the demo game that came with UDK, my steam name was my character's name.

Didn't think any more of it.

found it,
Steam
Steam is now the default OnlineSubsystem for UDKGame Win32
Steam handles all online services, including matchmaking, friends and server browsing

So yea, it detects and uses Steam.

It's steamworks enabled guys, you can actually ask a custom app id from Valve for your mod so you can have achievements, patching, updates etc...
Default they all use the default steam app id for UDK.
