Double Action

Postby Vino on Thu Dec 27, 2012 11:37 pm

I'm working on Double Action, a multiplayer action game in the vein of The Specialists and Action: Half-Life. Here's a video:

We need some artists! Like, badly. Weapon models, player models, model models. I'd appreciate it if you know anybody who played TS or AHL back in the day and might want to see a new incarnation of that genre, please pass the word along. The website is doubleactiongame.com

Thanks!

Looks cool! Although those jumps ala Max Payne look too exagerated.

They look exaggerated but they're the result of lots of playtesting to find the right values and they play pretty well. It actually took a lot of convincing me that they shouldn't be less exaggerated.

Exaggerated is good though I suppose! It's a game about being cool and stylish - exaggerated is stylish.

This looks awesome, I loved The Specialist and Action Half-Life 2. I agree that the sliding after a dive is a little too exaggerated. Also the animations could blend together better, it looks like the hitboxes would be jumping all over the place at the moment. Keep it up, this could be really good, just don't let it become awful like Distraction: Half-Life did.

Looks nice, but the slide after jump is reeeaaaallllyyy long, should definitely be shorter.

The player model is borrowed from Day of Defeat, until we get some artists to help with making a new one :)

Reminds me of Action Quake 2. I'll be following this.

How much thought have you guys put into destructible environments? I get a Jon Woo vibe from that video and that leads me to think that destructible environments would be a good eye-candy consideration for this mod. It would add to the memorability of it (although with those ridiculous slide it's pretty memorable).

Also how long till you abandon source and move to UDK?

John Woo is a serious inspiration. We try to introduce destructible stuff as much as possible.

Also, we'll never move to UDK.

Good luck with proper lighting if you're talking about parts of the map being destructible. Though if you're talking about just small props breaking, then it should be fine :P

Oh and mod looks fun. But the map looks.... bland? Maybe it's the textures or lighting, I can't really point my finger on it. I understand it's WIP though.

And good luck with the mod!

I was a huge TS fan, hosted servers for years.

Looks very cool, but unless the style meter does something, I suggest removing it.

Yes it does something. When it fills up you get a buff of your choosing, damage boost or health recovery, super slow motion, etc. It's there to encourage people to do stylish things.
