IT'S TIME TO BACK YOUR MODS UP PEOPLE

Postby Stormy on Thu May 02, 2013 9:48 am

I am getting a lot of people on steam chat telling me that they have lost massive amounts of content when their games are moved automatically from their account name folder to /common. Back your shit up fellers, just in case.

Since when did the Steampipe take your Source mods? They are actually going to rip the sourcemods folder or something?
I doubt it, but I'll back my shit up just in case...

It has already happened to a few people it seems. Valve just keeps digging this hole.

Seriously?
Well, crap.
If it happens to me, well, thank god for Dropbox.
Also know as WILLAM; TechieUK is my old name. If you see WILLAM on Steam or ModDB, it's me.

Checked my stuff yesterday and it all seemed to be in good order. Not the end of the world with what I got now but it's pitiful Valve updates are doing this. Definitely gonna stick with UDK or something like that after this current mod, cause at least Epic wont screw you over with updates like Valve does.

This was announced months ago. Keep up with the news and keep backups anyway - if Valve don't mess up your mod, your hard drive will.

Oh I guess I wouldn't have known that since I got UDK outside of steam. It's still Valve screwing up UDK then since they own Steam. :P

I just roll with the idea that Valve doesn't test any of the updates to see if there are problems. Just, "oh hey moar updates lets release it and see what happens"

I'm telling you man this is exactly what they are doing...

udk uses steams online sub systems, so when they change, it has the potential to mess with UDK's networking. VERY ANNOYING!

To be honest I've seriously considered using the leaked source code and just develop our mod on that. Full control over everything except vphysics but we wouldn't want to mess with that anyway.

Which mods are affected? Mine still live in the sourcemods folder.
