Half-Life 2: Wars v0.5 Released

Postby Ennui on Fri Jul 11, 2008 7:12 pm

Half-Life 2: Wars v0.5 improves just about everything in Half-Life 2: Wars. In addition to new maps, upgraded AI, and basebuilding for both Resistance and Combine, the update features a whole host of upgrades to the game, such as unit sounds, balance and gameplay tweaks, better visuals, and a lot of other small improvements. It now requires the Orange Box to play. This release is still singleplayer, but multiplayer has been in development for some time and is our focus for the next major update. You can play as both Combine and Resistance in 0.5.

  • Two new maps
  • Changed to Orange box engine
  • Added basebuilding

  • Improved units AI
  • Added support for navigation mesh

Pending further mirrors (if you would like to host one let us know) the mod is available for download on Moddb. Please delete any previous installations and make sure SDK Base - Orange Box and HL2: Episode 2 are installed to avoid problems.

Could they have made it any more similar to Company of Heroes' hud?

It reminded me a bit of World In Conflict actually, but hey, it looks nice right? :p

I didn't realise it until i actually bought company of heroes,
but Sander is clearly very fond of that game.
Gameplay style and all.

However,
i LOVE this mod.
Too mad multiplayer wasn't in this release.

In fact there is multiplayer in the release (including a map), you just need to start it through the console and manual connect. The gamemode is still very buggy.

Although I like COH, I'm not that much a fan of the game. I just think it is easier to convert hl2 to a COH gameplay style, with not too many units.

Cool I was really looking forward to being able to seeing base building in this. I'll definitely take a look at this.

I liked it an' all, but it needs work obviously. Especially the AI. I could practically take out the whole rebel base with just one guy and a lot of grenades because you can lob them past the fog of war, meaning the rebels won't spot the guy dishing out streaming red trails of high explosive death.

But all that aside (since I was kicking rebel ass after all), I had a lot of fun with this one, and I'm looking forward to the next update.

I was amazed at what you(they) did with the engine! Keep up the good work.

as I love COH too, some style on the HUD may remind of COH. But wtf is the problem with that? It's a rts. It's made for usability and "easyness". Only SOME of the setup is alike, so don't bitch about it.
Anyways, hope you like it.
You click on Build or type
make (or some equivalent), and you are astonished, then mortified, as you realize that the whole world is being
recompiled and relinked!
