yea i am far more interested in a well-crafted single player experience with a much greater emphasis on SURVIVAL.

I currently get that vibe from The Rising, even though I am disappointed as hell that The Rising is multiplayer only. I truly hope they focus on a single-player experience after their initial releases.

Thanks for the negatively judgemental attitude. What makes our game different? You'll have to wait and see when more information is released - suffice to say we aren't silly enough to try directly competing with L4D2.

No need for sarcasm. Anyways, it's different because it's single-player, but if it has map and prop quality like ZPS I'm gonna puke. I hope it's like They Hunger, a very memorable and fun game.

Looks like a great replacement for zombie panic: source, even if isn't multiplayer. So how do we apply for the beta testing?

Although there are several zombie games on the market, I don't think there are enough. Especially since they were never quite right for me. L4D was cool, I played it a lot, but it was rather arcadish, too. L4D2 I never even bought, because I didn't like the funny feeling. Zombie Panic Source is fun too, but it often feels odd and the map qualitity is really bad - and nowadays I think there are two maps that get played altogether (biotec and harvest). Which gets boring.
And a good single player game could make all the difference.

marks is of course a kick-ass modeller and by what we can see, I judge it as quite awesome. I am looking forward to it. :)

i want to see some mapping screens and actually know what the mod is about before judging. Although the models and concepts are very nice so far :)

Heya,
I'd like to thank everyone for the positive comments and hopefully alleviate concerns that Contagion will be a L4D clone. I have a quote of mine from another forum that should help-

L4D = action and as Valve stated they were trying for something appealing like CSS. L4D's gameplay on release was get from point a to point b and some later gamemodes that were inspired by mods.

Contagion on the other hand requires players to check corners, be aware of their environment, watch their ammo, and keep an eye out for more. We want players to be immersed in the environment and we're doing this by pushing the Engine to it's limits, quality assets, unique features and enemies (which will be very fun to go into later since these enemies will not react like your usual enemies), music and ambience to set the mood, and of course a story we all hope you'll enjoy revealing as you play.

Hope that helps. Of course as we reveal more later it should become apparent that we're quite different from what is available today.


I would say that They Hunger was a big influence on me and we hope to make something as memorable and as you can see from the media, we've got an incredibly talented team of developers working on the project.

really looking forward to this, I never ever had that zombie apocalypse feeling from any of the current zombie games/mods
except dead rising, but that had a funny vibe to it as well and I hate third person

I'm all for any game that makes zombies more than angry cannon fodder. This looks like it might be taking a more 'every zombie is a threat' approach, which I'd love.

Despite there being millions of other zombie mods around, this has me strangely interested...

So far the media looks shit hot, and the idea of playing tactically definitely appeals to me - especially if players need to be cautious about firing a weapon (for fear of attracting enemies).

One thing I would love to see in a zombie game is something that recreates the frenetic gameplay of CSS Zombie Escape, where players are forced to move quickly but also cautiously; capture and hold a position then hastily move to the next point. No zombie themed game or mod has quite managed to capture the sheer terror you feel when playing CSS Zombie Escape, I would be really psyched if you tried adding this for a map!

When they mention unique enemies I can't help but think of the angels from doctor who... man those would be fun to fight in a zombie mod, zombies that turn to stone when you are looking at them, but come to life when your not, it would make for some fun puzzles too, like leading one (or more) under a cargo container and them crushing them, or traping them in a room while you make your escape.

that and it would be scary as hell.

Oh wow that's awesome. So like...the developers behind ZP:S are a real company now or something, and they're making a retail game that's a successor to ZP:S? If so then good for you guys, that's freakin awesome!

Looks interesting, I'll keep my eye on this... I have never played ZP:S but thats likely due to my really bad internet connection... but from what I can tell, this game is aiming to be a more tactical zombie shooter unlike most zombie shoot-em-ups. Which is good.

Also, you said pushing the engine to it's limits, does this mean there is going to be more dynamic lighting? I don't mean the way Alien Swarm uses it, just throwing 2-3 env_projectedtexture entities in a map. I mean like real improvements to the system and use of the lights.
