Yeah, now that the system behind the progress thing is a little clearer, I'd have to agree that it's going to take longer than I originally guessed.

Still, with each progress bar that we complete, there seems to be a time 'bonus' (possibly in proportion to the amount of time needed to fill that game's progress bar - WEOTW's completion took off an extra hour, and that was the lowest played game), which should help speed the game along a little ahead of the projected finish time.

Nothing wrong with having a positive outlook, instead of your dour stance. It's hard to see how 'play loads of great indie games, and get Portal 2 early' can be seen as a bad thing.

[Edit] On a related note, has anyone else noticed that the potato counter has been renamed 'auxiliary power' from 'challenge status'? Maybe lends a bit more credibility to the theory that more potatoes = multiple power.

Getting a three hour time bonus because three thousand people idled on a game overnight just seems like such an anti-climactic end is all. They raised my hopes up for a release a couple of days early... then brought them down with unrealistic goals.

I fucking hate 123 Kick It. It wont even play ANY of my music because of ????????? wrong format or something I guess. But the game is just not very fun anyways. Audiosurf is a million times more fun and plays all my music. I'm a few minutes away from just giving up on the ARG's fruitfulness and pretending the release date is the 19th.

I feel like ive been swindled by valve. i would never buy the potato sack or play a lot of these games if it werent for the prospect of releasing the game early. i'm just not that into music games...and the other games are the ones i already owned (killing floor, the ball, cogs). so yea... :(

It's a little silly to buy all that just to release P2 if you don't like the games. I considered getting the potato sack, just because of the low prices, but I'll probably end up getting only SMB and Amnesia instead, the others don't interest me much (not to say they're bad games, of course). It seems to me that it's just a bonus that I'd get to help with the rebooting of a certain homicidal computer.

Edit: Perhaps Valve overestimated users' playing of the Potato games. If that's the case, they'll probably modify the countdown.

The release date still is the 19th. Since they've "recalculated" the release date on the site it's pretty much a confirmation that filling up a bar completely is the only thing that takes time off... so we'll probably see it two hours early.... :|

hmm, the bar's filled up alot in the past 6 hours.

I'm not sure if this is right, but I'd guess that the rate that the bars fill up is not constant, but linearly increasing (because people are getting more and more potatoes, which multiply their playtime.

also, I don't think we get a bonus for completing bars.

For anyone going for the potatoes, here's some initiative:

"There's also still time to collect all 36 potatoes. Anyone accomplishing this feat by the time Portal 2 launches will receive a very special, non-hat-based reward."

When any of the games are finished it removes some of the time on the clock. WEOTW removed 50 minutes, 1 2 3 removed 40, and AAAAAA removed 1 hour. Its so the game will still come out a bit early even if we don't fill the main bar.

How many of you actually believe Valve will release this when the potato launcher finishes? Valve never releases in time.
